Navy Exchange Services (NEX) Business Analyst (Food, Fuel and Services) in VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia

Title: Business Analyst (Food, Fuel and Services) Location: United States-Virginia-Virginia Beach Job Number: 2400037A Job Summary: Grade: NF04, Salary Code 4D. Serves as business analyst for Code N with responsibility for developing analysis and projections to anticipate and mitigate business risks, or to accelerate business opportunities. Prepares persuasive written communication and financial briefings on monthly business performance. Duties and Responsibilities: - Utilizes monthly operating statements in analyzing and evaluating profitability and efficiency of Exchange operations. Conducts variance and trend analyses to determine cause of non standard performance, and to identify risks and opportunities in the business. Coordinates and communicates with field personnel any observed opportunities or risks based on analysis of exchange performance. Provides recommendations per in response to financial analysis - Prepares financial recaps of individual District performance for management review. Prepares written correspondence to headquarters and field personnel detailing assessment of business performance and opportunities for improvement. Researches with applicable personnel and prepares summarized explanations of material variances from planned financial performance for distribution to the SVP and VP, Food, Fuel and Services. - Prepares communication to the field relative to sales, gross profit analysis, payroll and expenses. - Provides support in developing and analyzing the Enterprise's financial plans and operating targets. In this capacity, is also involved in developing /maintaining optimal store organizational structure / charts, business metrics, exception reports, etc. - Researches and gathers data, and coordinates with headquarters codes and field personnel in developing high level financial (PowerPoint or similar) briefings for the SVP Store Operations and other senior management as needed. - Serves as the Code N lead coordinating actions related to Management Control Reviews, Operations Self Audits, OIA / external audits, Continuous Process Improvement events, Command Snapshots and special projects. - Involved with developing and maintain key operational tools. This can include, but is not limited to, operational checklists (opening / closing, small store, gas station, common area touch points, etc.), Store Management Utility, Workforce Management Tools (Task Mgmt, Labor Scheduling, Time & Attendance, etc.). - Supports the Code N lead for Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery / COOP planning, Crisis Action Team (CAT) participation and BRAC coordination - Provides oversight and guidance on Code N expense budgets. Ensures SVP / VP Operations are kept apprised of performance to plan and develops mitigating actions as required to ensure overall expenses are maintained within budget. - Carries out policy of courtesy and service. Responds to inquiries and provides assistance in a prompt, friendly and professional manner. Exercises tact, good manners and courtesy when working with fellow associates and field personnel. - Actively supports the provisions of public law, executive orders and directives relating to Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO). Effectively complies with all regulations pertaining to sexual harassment. - Works under the supervision of the Vice President, Food, Fuel and Services. Carries out duties by established methods, procedures, and guidelines. - Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 3 years experience in administrative, technical or investigative work that demonstrated the ability and aptitudes required to perform technical, managerial or analytical work involving business analysis. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One year of academic study in a business discipline above the high school level may be substituted for 9 months of experience, up to a maximum of a 4-year bachelor's degree for 3 years of general experience. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Four years of progressive experience in retail merchandising, store operations and/or logistics, accounting/finance/audit including operations management; retail operation performance; analysis of operating budgets, accounting/finance/audit, inventory management practices and procedures; development and evaluation of sales objectives and expense control programs; development and implementation of sales promotion programs; or similar work that demonstrated the knowledge and ability to perform the work of the position.
