JOB SUMMARY

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the purchasing activities of the company. This role involves developing and implementing procurement strategies, managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of goods and services while maintaining cost-effectiveness. The Purchasing Manager plays a critical role in optimizing the supply chain and contributing to the overall success of the company.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Procurement Strategy:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with the company's objectives and budgetary constraints.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement measures to optimize purchasing processes and reduce expenses.

  • Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, supplier capabilities, and product innovations. Includes coordination of new product demonstrations by suppliers to the engineering teams.

Supplier Management:

  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, price, terms, delivery, reliability and customer support.

  • Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to secure favorable pricing, payment terms, and service level agreements.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, fostering collaboration and resolving any issues that may arise.

  • Negotiate pricing and terms on individual purchased items on projects. These could be items for which multiple bids can be obtained, high-dollar long-lead items, items with high quantities, or virtually any other criteria. Understand budgets for items based on the as-purchased cost sheets provided by Sales.

  • Perform annual performance reviews with key suppliers, and targeted reviews as needed with suppliers who are underperforming.

Returns, Inventory, and NCMR Management:

  • Oversee the Returns and Inventory process, which includes returning surplus goods to suppliers with minimal or no restocking charges, additions of non-returnable goods into inventory, and allocating inventory items to jobs when a new demand is identified on DP Report.

  • Issue quarterly reports in which surplus material Returns and Inventory transactions are summarized. The reports also include an accounting of every surplus item for review by cognizant department heads, to see if measures can be taken to avoid repeat surpluses in the future

  • Oversee all VMI activity as executed by the Purchasing Agent. Includes working with suppliers to ensure that VMI items are diligently restocked, that the VMI stock is “right-sized” according to usage, and that the blanket order and invoicing process is working according to plan.

  • Oversee purchasing’s responsibilities with respect to supplier NCMR’s, to ensure that all non-conforming material events are promptly rectified and documented.

Order Processing:

  • Oversee the procurement process and day-to-day activities of the purchasing team. Ensure that all purchases are completed in a timely manner, and are in line with company policies and procedures.

  • Oversee the expediting process in which deliveries are tracked against the suppliers’ promise dates, and critical items are expedited according to the needs of the projects.

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather purchase requisitions, review specifications, and obtain necessary approvals.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions.

  • Monitor supplier performance and conduct periodic supplier audits to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and quality standards.

Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, tracking expenses, and variances to ensure spending aligns with financial targets.

  • Implement cost-saving initiatives and efficiency measures to optimize departmental spending while maintaining quality standards.

    Position Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.

  • Proven experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems, with experience in analyzing data and generating reports.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence decision-making.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving continuous improvement and achieving cost savings.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

  • Strong ability in using Microsoft Office.

Pay Range $85,000 - $115,000
