The Jentsch laboratory at Binghamton University is seeking a senior laboratory assistant to facilitate and enable the research activities in the lab.
Duties include:
Planning and carrying out empirical research using laboratory mice, including behavioral testing, tissue collection and ex vivo voltammetry
Data analysis and production of data summaries for the principal investigator
Conducting survival and non-survival surgeries, along with the delivery of post operative care, when needed
Ensuring 100% compliance with biosafety, chemical safety and laboratory animal regulations
Training undergraduate research assistants on laboratory protocols and maintaining detailed training records
Disinfection, sanitation and calibration of all laboratory equipment
Production of sterile pharmaceuticals for delivery to animals
General management of a large colony of genetically engineered subjects, including managing breeding and genotype records.
Job Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience or a closely related discipline
At least 1 year of experience with animal studies and wet-lab bench work.
Evidence of strong team-work abilities
At least 1 year of experience with the Google suite of utilities (docs, spreadsheets, etc.) or the Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
A master's degree in psychology, neuroscience or a closely related discipline
At least 1 year of experience with basic mouse husbandry practices
At least 6 months experience with a basic statistical analysis package (SPSS, R, etc.)
Experience in higher education, where the primary research participants are undergraduate and doctoral students.
Additional Information:
Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 annually, depending on experience.
