Cleveland Clinic Respiratory Therapist - Outpatient Pulmonary Clinic in Vero Beach, Florida

A caregiver in this role will have the opportunity to treat patients in an outpatient setting, while serving as the respiratory subject matter expert on a highly skilled multidisciplinary team. This caregiver demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the treatment of respiratory disorders. This caregiver is responsible for critical care ventilators, assessment and management of pulmonary conditions of patients.

This is the ideal opportunity for an experienced caregiver who is looking to work in an outpatient setting. Caregivers in this role will enjoy helping patients progress in a less acute setting.

A caregiver in this position works days, from 8 a.m. -- 4:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role, will:

  • Provide care to all patient populations, taking into account assessment and interview techniques identifying psychosocial, physical and educational needs.

  • Provide for patient's privacy, providing reassurance and support when there is anxiety.

  • Modify therapy to reflect response unique to all patient populations.

  • Maintain continuous ventilation of patients on mechanical ventilators (invasive and non-invasive). Weans patients from continuous ventilation utilizing established procedures.

  • Monitor patient's ventilatory status through use of spirometers, pressure gauges and chest auscultation.

  • Perform cardiopulmonary assessment to evaluate patient's respiratory status.

  • Analyze, record and report results such as arterial blood gases, oxygenation studies, pulmonary function tests, and hemodynamic monitoring parameters.

  • Maintain airway care by performing and instructing proper tracheal instillations, tracheal aspiration and nasotracheal aspiration.

  • Act as a resource for pulmonologists and training residents and serve as a preceptor for new caregivers.

  • Assist in providing departmental training and classes.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:

  • Graduation from an AMA approved respiratory care program

  • State of Florida Department of Health License Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

  • Maintain NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care) certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association

  • If working in a hospital position, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:

  • Membership in Florida Society of Respiratory Care

  • Membership to the American Association for Respiratory Care

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Requires normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.

  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • This position requires proficiency in treatment of respiratory disorders for inpatient and outpatients with various media, i.e. oxygen, therapeutic gases, inhaled medications and positive pressure devices.

  • Interpretive skills frequent interactive and consultative associations are inherent in this position.

  • The ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in a written, auditory or visual fashion is essential.

  • Physical Duties: Moderate to heavy lifting and positioning of patients.

  • Moderate pushing and pulling of equipment.

  • Working Conditions: 100% air-conditioned.

  • Moderate risk of exposure to blood or air-borne pathogens.
