UINTAH MOSQUITO ABATEMENT DISTRICT Mosquito Field Technician Seasonal in VERNAL, Utah

         

*Description *

The mosquito abatement Mosquito Control Field Technician performs semi-skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of spraying equipment. Must mix and apply mosquito control products according to label specifications. Attends training sessions and must pass the Utah Department of Agriculture Non-commercial Pesticide Applicators License in the Public Health Category.  Keeps detailed records of work activities and pesticide applications. Mosquito Control Field Technician will report equipment failures and problems to supervisor. Must have the ability to operate trucks with a trailer, ATV's, equipment, and motor driven sprayers. Ensures proper use of safety equipment and performs other related duties as required.  Mosquito Control Field Technician is a temporary seasonal position.

Job Requirements

Knowledge and understanding of: Mosquito sprayers and trucks; safety rules, procedures and practices; identifying and controlling of vector and nuisance mosquito species; principals of Integrated Mosquito Management (IMM).

Skills in: Operating equipment including 4WD pickups, ATV's and pulling trailers; basic computer; map reading and skills and understanding of GPS equipment and its associated software for record keeping; performing mathematical computations; basic computer data entry; customer service.

 

Ability to: Traverse a wide range of physical conditions including: walking long distances and challenging terrain with muddy, wet and slippery footing; operate specialized chemical application equipment; exercise sound judgment; lift up to 50 pounds; keep accurate records; communicate effectively orally and in writing; maintain confidentiality; follow verbal and written instructions; pay attention to detail; establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public; deal with frequent changes, delays and unexpected events; observe assigned work hours and established lines of authority; demonstrate punctuality; work as a team member or independently as required.  Some night and Saturday work will be required in addition to week day work.

 

Education and Experience

The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience. Applicant must be at least 18 years old, have graduated high school and possess a valid Utah Driver's License issued by the State of Utah; a good driving record is required. The successful applicants shall attend training sessions and pass the Utah Department of Agriculture Non-commercial Pesticide Applicators License in the Public Health Category exam within 2 weeks of start date.

Description of Benefits

Field Technicians are classified as seasonal employees without benefits. Seasonal employees work a maximum of less than six months per year. (Basically from the first part of April to the last part of September.)  Field Technicians will not receive any benefits such as Insurance (with the exception of Workman's Compensation), Retirement, leave of any type (sick leave, annual leave, holiday leave, etc..).
