Under general supervision, prepares and positions patients for a variety of medical imaging procedures ranging from routine diagnostic x-rays to highly-specialized diagnostic tests and the operational network management of the acquisition and electronic archiving of all modality image studies to produce diagnostic images for interpretation by a Radiologist.
As a vascular interventional radiographer, you’ll assist physicians with minimally invasive, image-guided vascular procedures, including angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, and more. Using sophisticated fluoroscopic equipment, you’ll be responsible for capturing images of the blood vessels.
Interventional Radiology Technologist functions independently as a member of the vascular interventional radiology (VIR) team. This position acts as the principal Interventional Radiologic Technologist overseeing the technical operations required for the performance of advanced procedures. The Radiologic Technologist develops and implements systems to assure a smooth and efficient flow of patients for procedures. Technologist duties include but not limited to: circulating and scrubbing roles during procedures, patient teaching, assisting with patient care within the scope of practice, inventory management, and schedule coordination. This position requires the individual to be flexible in their work schedule to take calls. This individual is considered an expert-level IR tech. The ability to self-direct and organize a varied workflow is required. The incumbent must demonstrate competency in assisting with vascular interventional radiology (VIR).
Radiologic Specialist II is the journey level of the Radiologic Specialist series. Incumbents have a minimum of two (2) years of experience and perform their duties more independently in their respective specialty areas. Radiologic Specialist II will also assist in the training of student technologists and other imaging staff members as needed.

EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification.
BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending on the applicable memorandum of agreement and the needs of the department. In order to qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency examination.

Radiologic Specialist II is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future regular, temporary, fixed-term, intermittent, or extra help vacancies. This is currently one (1) Regular vacancy at Ventura County Medical Center, and Santa Paula Hospital.

Examples Of Duties
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Schedules patients and coordinates examinations;
Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations;
Prepares and positions patients for imaging;
Shields patients according to radiation safety procedures;
Cleans and maintains modality-specific equipment, including routine preventative maintenance, minor repairs and adjustments;
Evaluates projected cross-sectional images for clarity, content and scope of examination;
Completes documentation required for examination and billing processes;
Assesses and responds rapidly to emergency situations;
Assists physicians during procedures (i.e., biopsies, drainages, needle localizations, etc.);
Assists in maintaining inventory and orders pharmaceuticals and supplies;
Prepares and administers contrast agents;
Recognizes and provides measurements of normal and abnormal pathology;
Provides detailed anatomical statistics for interpretation by department physicians;
Assists Radiologist (MD) with changing out catheters and various guidewires while maintaining sterile field integrity during procedures;
Works in conjunction with RN to monitor patient vital signs during procedures; will alert MD and nursing staff to any change in patient status during the exam;
Processes biopsy specimens for delivery to lab for analysis;
Assists Radiologist (MD) with PICC line placements; and
Performs other related duties as required.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a single two-year allied health education program that is patient-care related; OR
Graduation from a program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professionals (CAAHEP) that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology OR
Bachelor’s degree in sonography or vascular technology OR
Bachelor’s degree in any major and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time clinical ultrasound/vascular experience. (NOTE: this experience cannot be used to satisfy the experience required below).
Minimum one (2) year of experience performing the duties in:
A. Two (2) of the following modalities/essential area of expertise: X-Ray/Fluoroscopy, Computed Tomography, Electronic Medical Record, Interventional Radiology, Mammography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and PACS Administrator.
- OR -
B. One (1) of the following modalities/essential area of expertise: Echocardiography or Ultrasound.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid CPR certification
Must possess a valid Radiologic Technologist Certificate issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch
Must possess a valid Fluoroscopy Permit issued by the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch
This position may be subject to State Health Officer Orders regarding vaccine verification and/or testing. These requirements are a condition of employment. Depending on assignment and work location(s), successful candidates or this position will be required to submit proof of vaccination and/or booster against COVID-19 or request an exemption for qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process.

Comprehensive knowledge of:
Anatomy, physiology, physics and medical terminology as it relates to each imaging modality
Exam specific requirements when imaging neonates, pediatric and adult patients.
Adherence to HIPAA regulations
Documentation required for exam billing processes
General imaging patient care practices/operations utilized in a hospital setting.
Positioning patients for image acquisition
Shielding patients per ALARA
Recognizing and evaluating projected images for clarity, content and scope of examination
Demonstrated ability to:
Perform routing and complex and/or specialty imaging services studies to include measurements of normal and abnormal pathology and detailed anatomical statistics.
Proficiently perform exams requiring sterile field set-up and maintenance
Exercise a high degree of tact, courtesy, poise, sensitivity and respect when explaining procedures to patients
Provide clear and concise explanations to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation
Establish effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Applicants successfully completing the exam process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
