Calling all motivated individuals who want to explore a rewarding career in the transportation industry!

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is offering a unique opportunity for you to gain hands-on experience and valuable skills through the MDOT Transportation Career Pathways Program. This exciting program typically runs from May to September and is limited to 832 hours per appointment.

Here's what you can expect:

•Explore different career paths:Choose your track based on your interests, including Transportation Technician, Transportation Maintenance Worker, or Skilled Trades- not all regions have the same tracks

•Develop essential skills:Build teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and technical skills that will benefit you throughout your career.

•Make a difference in your community:Contribute to important projects that keep Michigan moving safely and efficiently.

In the University Region we are offering the following tracks:

Transportation Technician Track

Dive into practical , hands-on or lab-based work focused on becoming a skilled transportation technician. Gain valuable experience in maintaining and improving transportation systems, contributing to the smooth flow of traffic and overall infrastructure reliability.

  • Up to three participants in the materials lab, Lansing TSC and the Jackson TSC.

Landscaping Maintenance Track

For this track, you will be helping the area with landscaping and area beautification projects in the region. You will also have an opportunity to engage department professionals to find the right fit for your career.

  • Up to fifteen participant in Jackson, Lansing, Adrian and Brighton.

Additional Requirements and Information

Program Requirements:

• Pass a pre-employment drug test

• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver's license by program start date 5/12/2024

• 40-hour work week availability

• Ability to work outside and lift up to 45 pounds

• Ability to work on roadsides and uneven terrain

• Ability to follow and comply with oral and written instructions
