Eaton Corporation Senior Firmware Engineer in Vantaa, Finland

Eaton´s new campus for its critical power systems in Vantaa, Finland, integrates all current activities into a much larger site. Campus is completed by the end of 2023, and the 16,500 m² site will house research and development, manufacturing, warehousing, sales and service under one roof and will create up to 100 additional jobs.

As one of the world’s largest manufacturers of three-phase uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), Eaton’s expansion in this area is driven by strong business growth and the demand for systems that ensure business continuity. Situated in a prime location next to the Helsinki airport, the Vantaa facility will serve as Eaton’s Critical Power Solutions headquarters and a center of excellence for data centers.

What you’ll do:

Eaton’s Electrical Power division is currently seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to join our Firmware team . This position will be a hybrid role as long as you live within Helsinki capital area.

In this function you will:

  • Collaborate with global firmware engineering teams in the development, test, and release of embedded firmware for UPS product lines.

  • Troubleshoot and improve product features. Write and maintain functional specifications of design solutions.

  • Analyze the power system architecture and requirements to develop and improve technical solutions to achieve product requirements.

  • Develop firmware that meets coding standards and product design requirements. Document and formally release embedded software following company procedures.

  • Develop test plans and monitor test results.

  • Keep track of latest embedded software strategies, processes, and tools. Apply knowledge to power electronic applications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering degree with a minimum of eight (8) years industry work experience in embedded firmware development OR

  • Master's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering degree with a minimum of five (5) year industry work experience in embedded firmware development.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong knowledge and experience embedded firmware development consisting of state machines, control algorithms and user interfaces.

  • Extensive Experience in C++ and C.

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of 3-phase power systems.

  • Ability to work lab environment around high voltage where safety awareness is critical.

  • Ability to read schematics and interpret the behavior of electronic systems.

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications.

  • Position requires an individual who is self-motivated, team-oriented, proactive, attentive to detail, and able to overcome obstacles to meet schedule requirements."

Skills:

  • Experience in debugging and fixing of complex state machines and closed loop controls.

  • Experience working on Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) systems.

  • Experience with Model-based state machine design.

  • Design experience with UPS and/or power electronic products for high reliability.

  • Knowledge of embedded real time operating system and Linux.

  • Knowledge of modern software development processes. Experience with standard dev tools: revision control (Git), issue tracking (Jira), profilers, debugging, etc.

  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot analog and digital control circuitry.

  • Experience working on a cross-functional, world-wide development projects
