Summary All hourly jobs are considered as open for bid on a continuous basis. Responsibilities As a Painter, you will: From shop orders and verbal or written instructions, determines work procedure, tools, and equipment to be used, and in most cases, the type of materials necessary for the assigned jobs. Paint electrical equipment, structural steel, wood, metal parts, vehicular equipment, interiors and exteriors of buildings, and other structures. Prepare surfaces by hand sanding, sand blasting, steam cleaning, and scraping, filling and puttying as necessary. Blend colors and mixes paint and other surfacing materials. Applies appropriate coats and finishes. Operate standard painting equipment such as air and airless spray equipment, steam cleaning, and sandblasting equipment. Must be familiar with and display proficiency in the operation of all equipment including making necessary adjustments and performing maintenance. Cut and installs glass. Tape and finish sheetrock. Operate small power tools (e.g., grinders, sanders). May be required to move items preparatory to painting and replace after painting. Clean up equipment and make proper disposal of waste materials. Perform miscellaneous duties related to the Painter craft. The screen-out element for this position is: The ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision to accomplish works and trades such as to prepare and paint all types of substrates using Conventional and Airless spray equipment to include the use of brushes, and rollers in a High voltage electrical yards and Control houses with sensitive equipment, and commercial and heavy industrial environments. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WORKING CONDITIONS: Outside work is usually performed during good weather but outside jobs must be occasionally performed during inclement weather, especially on switchyard installations. Hazards include: working around energized, high voltage electrical equipment; machinery with moving parts; climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and steel structures; and exposure to fumes, smoke or gases, solvents, and dust. Proper respiratory and safety equipment shall be worn in accordance with OSHA standards when hazardous substances are being handled (solvent fumes, etc.). The work environment will occasionally include high noise levels or exposure to hazardous substances (i.e., asbestos, acids, solvents, thinners, lacquers, PCB's, lead, etc.) that could, if precautions are not followed, pose a health risk. Emergencies, critical system conditions, or outage limitations may require that work be system wide, or under time restraints. System priorities may require extended periods of overtime including working weekends. May work at heights over 100 feet. Occasionally will have to work from swing staging or manlifts. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
