Role

Splunk builds software that lets you search, report, monitor and analyze live-streaming and historical data across the entire data spectrum, from IT to Marketing to Operations, all from one place and in real time. Getting a vast variety of massive data in and ready for analysis is never easy.

As a part of Data Management development area, the Platform Experience team builds a visual search and data analysis solution that enables Splunk users to monitor and analyze log event and metrics data and other time series data through simple and intuitive point and click actions including the selection of data sources to create interactive charts, application of filters and aggregations to gain insight into IT system’s metrics and performance, and finally to quickly identify and respond to any issues or anomalies in the data.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the technical roadmap and strategic direction for Platform Experience backend services enabling Data Management products including Edge and Ingest Processors

  • Align technical design of current Platform Experience backend architecture with other products in Data Management portfolio for both Cloud and On-premise deployments

  • Provide high-level technical guidance and oversight

  • Ensure the technical feasibility of designs working actively to influence the same

  • Build, test, operate, and maintain customer-critical data management functionalities

  • Analyze and optimize for performance and scalability

  • Mentor other engineers and promote continuous learning, while maintaining a high bar for quality and delivering for customer

  • Increase the efficiency and effectiveness of development processes

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of backend development experience

  • Strong fundamentals in software engineering: data structures and algorithms

  • Built and delivered backend services on Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform

  • Coding proficiency in Go (preferred) or other backend languages and the ability to quickly learn new languages

  • Experience in working on distributed systems like databases, distributed file systems, distributed concurrency control, consistency models, CAP theorem is an added plus.

  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills including the use of associated tools

  • Experience with developing CI/CD systems

  • Experience developing automated tests and profiling services to understand performance, scalability and reliability of services and components.

  • Ability to document your work for the benefit of the team

  • Knowledge of REST, grpc or similar communication paradigms

  • Knowledge of public cloud services such as AWS, GCP, Azure (preferred)

  • Operational excellence: you think beyond feature delivery into how your code is serving customers in production

  • Excellent problem solving skills and great attention to details

  • Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly

  • Experience with automated software and system management and development tools

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Exposure to project methodology or work structures; understand project lifecycle

  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams (not just engineering)

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills

Note:

Base Pay Range

Canada

Base Pay: CAD 172,400.00 - 237,050.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
