General Engineering Technician IPerforms and coordinates advanced transportation engineering operations or maintenance support work such as construction and/or complex maintenance contract inspection; light and heavy equipment operation; roadway maintenance; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.General Engineering Technician IIPerforms and coordinates highly advanced transportation engineering operations or maintenance support work such as construction and/or complex contract maintenance inspection; light and heavy equipment operation; roadway maintenance; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:General Engineering Technician IReviews and coordinates with area engineers on monthly and final estimates, field changes, supplemental agreements, extra work orders and revised estimates of quantities.Conducts tests of highway construction materials, makes calculations, and records results.Inspects construction and routine and non-routine contract maintenance methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.Maintains files of shop drawings and monitors progress of construction activities.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Oversees complex maintenance and spot improvement contracts.08426: Performs pavement evaluations and operates data collection equipment.Reviews and recommends approval of shop drawings of moderately complex bridge elements and other highway related structures to ensure compliance with approved plans and structural design requirements.Serves as project leader responsible for construction inspection activities for a medium to large construction project or for several small projects.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.General Engineering Technician IIConsults with contractors' superintendent on work progress and maintenance problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.Oversees complex maintenance and spot improvement contracts and total maintenance, performance based, and/or bundled bid contracts.Serves as project leader responsible for construction inspection activities for large and/or complex construction projects or for multiple district construction projects.Reviews and coordinates with area engineers on monthly and final estimates, field changes, supplemental agreements, extra work orders and revised estimates of quantities.Conducts tests of highway construction materials, makes calculations, and records results.Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.Inspects construction and routine and non-routine contract maintenance methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.Performs pavement evaluations and operates data collection equipment.Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other w rk as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
