Job Description

The Maintenance Worker I, under supervision, maintains buildings and equipment for assigned department.
Job Duties:
Performs preventative maintenance, repairs and service work on machinery, equipment, and fixtures including motor vehicles, farm tractors and implements
Performs maintenance, construction, repair work and troubleshoots building repairs
Operates machinery to include drill press, sharpeners, table saws, chain saws, lawn mowers, edgers, weed eaters, band saw, jointer, hand tools, trencher, cherry picker and other miscellaneous equipment
Assists in moving heavy equipment and assists in special set-ups
Assists in repairs of sidewalks, sewer lines, plumbing, building slabs, streets, and related installations
Assists in preparing floors and occasionally replaces broken or missing tile
Finishes and repairs furniture
Performs inspections of operating machinery, equipment, utility systems, and building accessories and appliances to ensure proper maintenance and repair
Monitors heating and cooling systems for proper operation/correct temperatures and changes filters
Assists in planning and/or supervision of major repair projects
Performs welding in heating, cutting and brazing of ferrous non-ferrous metals with acetylene electrical equipment
Assists in troubleshooting, repairs, fabrications and performs routine maintenance on technical equipment
Assists farm, shop, research projects and administrative support staff
Cleans shop and maintains a clean and organized work, office and storage area at all times
Assists in keeping records and ordering parts
Operates backhoe, front end loader, tractors and hooks up and pulls trailers, requires operating an agency vehicle.
Works indoors and outdoors in cold or hot climates as required which includes walking, the ability to lift or move heavy objects up to 50 pounds, stretching, pulling and pushing
Other job related duties as deemed necessary
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
One year of related experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Valid driver’s license
Ability to operate heavy equipment including backhoe, tractors, pulling/moving trailers
Other Requirements or Other Factors:
Ability to lift moderately heavy objects
Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends
