Job Summary
The Nurse Educator-RNC provides clinical education to nursing staff, students and others in order to meet orientation and continuing education needs. Serves as a resource by mentoring staff and monitoring/evaluating clinical competencies to assure the highest quality clinical outcomes and safety. Acts as a role model to all staff.
Core Job Responsibilities
A Nurse Educator is a highly experienced, registered nurse who uses their knowledge, skills and expertise to provide clinical education and professional development to nursing staff and students.
Participates in educational programs for the staff, students, and the nursing facility. Contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues through innovative programs in both a classroom setting and on the nursing units. Works collaboratively with the Nursing Leadership to assess the educational needs of staff.
Participates in individualized orientation and evaluates the employee’s progress towards achievement of competency. Ensures that new employees are scheduled for facility and/or unit-specific mandatory programs. Documents progress and competency per policy and addresses issues in collaboration with the Director of Education and Nurse Leadership.
Assesses the practice of nursing staff and students in their assigned area through direct observation, chart reviews and participation in quality monitors. Participates in the development of plans to educate staff based on identified needs to ensure that safe, high quality patient care is consistently delivered.
Conducts classes and/or provides individualized instruction.
May work with Nurse Leadership to implement individualized employee improvement or development plans. Tracks the progression and achievement of competency. Presents results and new or revised action plans to Department Manager when indicated.
Participates in investigating concerns of nursing practice and keeps current in the latest research in area of expertise.
Creates an environment that optimizes patient/resident safety and the quality of care being delivered to our patients/residents. Provides clear and constructive feedback to educate in an effective manner.
Works as a direct care RN as appropriate to ensure they keep current with patient care techniques and to help create a sense of teamwork, transparency and understanding of what the direct patient care nurse jobs entail.
Participates in the development of standards of nursing care practice through participation in assigned committees and workgroups. Works collaboratively with other health care professionals and departments.
Maintains a high standard of professional responsibility and performance as well as encourages the development of skills in members of the nursing staff.
Supports and role models the policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of excellent care and customer service meets or exceeds patient/resident expectations. Ensures the delivery of compassionate patient centered care that addresses patient and family needs and concerns in a timely manner.
Complies with all MVHS and RNC training and competency requirements.
Functions as a Nurse Aide Trainee Program (NATP) Instructor and will act as a Practical Trainer for the NATP as needed. Is knowledgeable of NATP requirements as outlined in 42 CFR 483.152. May not supervise more than eight (8) trainees during the supervised clinical training portion of the training program.
Perform related duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Minimum 2 years of nursing experience with 1 year in a long term care setting.
Must have completed a professionally recognized course for teaching adults or supervising nurse aides to function as the NATP Coordinator and Instructor, or must be able to complete the course within 60 days of hire and prior to the start of a new NATP class.
PREFERRED:
- BSN in nursing.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Valid and unrestricted registered nursing license in NY State.
PREFERRED:
AHA BLS and/or ACLS Instructor certification.
Certification in area of specialty.
