Job Description

The Opportunity

This role's primary job focus is to prepare and review manual benefit calculations and provide pension related administration support for special projects such as plan terminations and lump sum windows. Calculation types are varied and include deaths, QDRO's, disability, leave of absence, rehires, over 70.5 required increases, RMD's, and various other calculations as needed to administer the pension plan. We are looking for an incumbent who has expertise in pension plans, reviewing plan documents, interpreting plan provision and able to review benefit calculations. The calculation analyst will also participate in special project work such as data clean up and preparation of required notices for plan terminations and lump sum windows and other project requests as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review sophisticated manual benefit calculations according to plan document provisions

  • Support plan terminations as needed, including preparing data files, calculating benefits and preparation of required notices with assistance from project lead

  • Support lump sum window and annuity purchase projects; such as preparing data, forms creation and tracking

  • Interpret plan provisions to assist other departments and provide administrative support

  • Other duties as assigned

This employee will report to the Manager, Calculations and Special Initiatives Team which is part of the Benefits Consulting Group at John Hancock. This team member plays an important direct role in assisting participants with receiving their retirement benefits either through the regular retirement process or through special offerings such as plan terminations or lump sum windows.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or similar subject or equivalent experience

  • 3-5+ years in the Defined Benefit field, including experience with reviewing Benefit Calculations

  • Strong organizational, analytic and problem solving ability with attention to detail

  • Outstanding skills with MS Office Applications, particularly MS Excel

  • Ability to multi-task and lead work load efficiently

  • Ability to provide concise, accurate explanations and understanding in addition to mathematical responses

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

USA, Massachusetts - Full Time Remote

Salary range is expected to be between

$58,875.00 USD - $98,125.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
