The Department of Bioengineering in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for a Senior Research Scientist position in Dr. Ting Lu\'s laboratory. The Senior Research Scientist conducts scientific research, working either independently or collaboratively, as required for research projects, in addition to providing leadership in the management of the laboratory and preparing and submitting research reports and publications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform high-level research in the areas of synthetic biology and metabolic engineering both independently and with internal and external collaborators.
Lead research activities within the laboratory including providing oversight of graduate students and postdoctoral research associates associated with related research projects.
Maintain, update, and manage laboratory records, chemical inventory, and equipment records. Order laboratory supplies , reviewing and approving all orders for the laboratory.
Ensure regulatory safety compliance is met, permits for controlled materials are in place, biohazards and chemical wastes are disposed of properly, and related records are maintained.
Develop content and contribute to writing of peer-reviewed publications, and prepare and submit research progress reports.
Assist principal investigator in applications for funding and management of current funding.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology, Metabolic Engineering, or related areas
5 years\' experience in advanced molecular cloning techniques (Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate Assembly, and Yeast Assembly)
5 years\' experience in fluorescence microscopy and high-performance liquid chromatography
Preferred Qualifications:
5 years \' postdoctoral work in metabolic engineering or synthetic biology
5 years\' experience in managing laboratory supplies, biosafety and equipment maintenance, and supervising and mentoring students
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Wet lab skills in microbial pathway design, plasmid construction, and strain engineering.
Knowledge in microbial metabolism and gene regulation.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a multidisciplinary team.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The minimum starting salary is \$90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Employees hired into this position will be expected to work onsite on a full-time basis.
