Job Summary

The Director of Admissions is responsible for all aspects of admissions, including oversight of student recruitment, selection, and matriculation. In addition, serve as the college liaison to relevant campus units to coordinate application receipt and administration. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership

    In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, provide vision, leadership, and direction to the development and implementation of admission and recruitment programs; oversee student admission to the Carle Illinois College of Medicine.

    Oversee the implementation of a strategic plan for recruitment of students to meet the goals and mission of Carle Illinois College of Medicine; cultivate pipeline relationships with undergraduate, high school, and other programs for recruitment of applicants to the College.

    Collaborate on public relations and marketing activities to insure effective and accurate representation of the school in recruiting efforts as well as admissions policies and procedures.

  • Operational Leadership

    Assist the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to oversee and administer the Admissions budget; ensure that institutional policies are met and applied in the recruitment and admissions area.

    Oversee the processes for application receipt, screening, interviewing, recruitment, and admissions; work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and staff in the College in support of the core mission of providing an excellent engineering-based medical education to a diverse student population poised to succeed in the program.

    Coordinate use of the national medical school application in conjunction with the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS); develop and implement additional application processes.

    Establish and maintain an applicant-centered system for appropriate and ongoing communication with prospective, admitted, and matriculated students.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Serve as an ex-officio member of the Admissions Committee and the Scholarship Committee.

    This position will require travel and occasional flexibility for the workday and work hours.

    Foster a culture of diversity and inclusion, particularly during the application, interview, and recruitment process of medical school candidates.

    Maintain responsibility for compliance related to the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) standards and University policies in admissions and recruitment.

    Engage in ongoing planning and continuous quality improvement in recruiting and admission processes that establish short-term and long-term goals, result in measurable outcomes, and effectively monitor compliance with LCME accreditation standards; track and manage admissions data to inform these admissions strategies.

    Champion positive inter-professional relationships bridging the college\'s private/public organization and missions.

Minimum Qualifications

Master\'s degree

Minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education with progressive responsibility that includes admissions experience

Preferred Qualifications

Ed.D., Ph.D., MD or other terminal degree

Experience in medical school admissions with pro ressive responsibility and leadership. Experience working with AAMCAS, Banner and SLATE database systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of successful policies and procedures in use in higher education as related to student recruitment and admissions. Strong project management, and team-building skills, as well as skills and abilities to work cooperatively with all constituencies in a unique environment of engineering-based medical education in the context of the Carle and Illinois private public relationship. Knowledge of student and patient privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, etc.) is required. A strong work ethic, an approachable leadership style, and a consistent focus on the college\'s immediate and strategic goals. Familiarity and experience with the AMCAS application system and the AAMC \"traffic rules\" for medical school admissions. Strong interpersonal and communications skills that incorporate tact and diplomacy. Must be willing to learn all aspects of the college\'s strategic and collaborative approach to curriculum, research diversity and inclusion. Must be willing to learn and respect University policies related to recruitment and admissions and relevant Liaison Committee on Medical Education standards.
