The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is seeking a Coordinator of Research Programs. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining educational programs that support Illinois undergraduate students throughout their research journeys. Key responsibilities include advising students and planning their research pathways, organizing on-campus outreach events, overseeing OUR\'s three largest programs (Illinois Undergraduate Research Ambassadors, Research Workshop Series, Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program), and supervising undergraduate student interns. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist OUR senior leadership with developing and implementing programmatic initiatives that support students and faculty. This position reports to the Associate Director of OUR.

Duties & Responsibilities -

Development and Management of Undergraduate Research Programs

  • Work closely with campus and external partners to develop, organize, and teach OUR research workshop series.
  • Oversee Illinois Undergraduate Research Ambassadors program, including developing educational and outreach materials, organizing meetings and events, and overseeing peer advisors.
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of on-campus outreach events to promote undergraduate research opportunities and engage the student community.
  • With OUR Director, co-direct the Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program, including curriculum development and teaching responsibilities of multiple course sections for GC295.
  • Assist the Associate Director with process improvements pertaining to student and program data, including data collection, reporting, and analysis for the following programs: Undergraduate Research Certificate program; Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program; Research Support and Conference Travel Grants; Undergraduate Research Opportunities Database; Undergraduate Research Week & Symposium; campus faculty liaison database; and others as needed.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate all undergraduate student staff.
  • Assist with selecting and nominating undergraduate research grants and awards.
  • Assist OUR senior leadership in outreach efforts to cultivate and support internal (i.e., faculty, staff, administrators) and external partners for current and future programs and collaborations.
  • (Professionalization) Keep updated on trends in undergraduate research.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Student Advising and Support

  • Respond to emails, in-person inquiries, and phone calls from students, faculty, and staff as needed.
  • Facilitate undergraduate research advising appointments with students, including developing action plans and follow-up strategies.
  • Develop and maintain educational resources for OUR website to support students throughout their undergraduate careers.
  • Facilitate the planning and implementation of special events (i.e., social and promotional events).
  • Develop and maintain undergraduate research resources for use by students, faculty, and staff, including informational flyers and online webpages.

Outreach and Promotion

  • Oversee the student intern(s) responsible for managing OUR social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram).
  • Represent OUR at recruitment, outreach, and orientation events.
  • Represent OUR at external meetings and conferences.

Required Qualifications -

  • Bachelor\'s degree.
  • One year of demonstrated experience with undergraduate research, including direct involvement in research projects, mentor ng undergraduate researchers, or facilitating research opportunities.

  • Bachelor\'s degree.
  • One year of teaching or mentoring experience. Involvement in undergraduate research, including participating in undergraduate research, mentoring undergraduate researchers, or facilitating research opportunities/programs.

Preferred Qualifications -

  • Graduate Degree.
  • Professional experience (including time as a graduate student) working in student academic affairs within higher education, supporting undergraduate research initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities -

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills and passion for supporting students.
  • Strong organizational skills and initiative.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in high-impact practices in higher education.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search.
