JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is seeking applicants for the position of Visitor Services Scheduler and Trainer. This is a part-time staff position reporting to the Director of Education. The position serves as a team leader for Visitor Services Associates to ensure an exceptional museum experience and to maintain a positive and welcoming environment for all museum visitors from diverse backgrounds with varying goals and interests. In keeping with the museum’s core values, this position is committed to the highest standards of the museum profession and to creating a culture and environment that leads to meaningful experiences for all constituents.

Duties include:

  • Onboard, train, and coach Visitor Services Associates, which include part-time staff, interns, and volunteers.

  • Communicate museum policies and practices to newly hired employees.

  • Identify and address coaching needs and participate in developing training plans for Visitor Services staff and volunteers.

  • Generate weekly/monthly staffing schedules to ensure full coverage of the museum’s visitor services operations along with employee preferences.

  • Ensure proper staffing following standard procedures; monitor weekly hour limitations for part-time employees.

  • Monitor and track part-time employee attendance; administer proper call-off procedure and track attrition/turnover as well as evidence of success.

  • Maintain knowledge of University and museum customer service policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Maintain Visitor Services records to include collection of visitor attendance data and reports, and visitor feedback.

  • Maintain Visitor Services manuals.

  • Consider process improvements and share recommendations with management.

  • May perform duties of Visitor Services Associate at the front desk.

This is a part-time position with the need for flexible scheduling. The museum is open to the public Wednesdays through Sundays, and this position requires weekend shifts.

Experience in an arts non-profit, or educational setting preferred. Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Arts-related discipline preferred. Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including sensitivity to multiculturalism, diversity, and accessibility. Ability to work with a wide variety of people, including students, faculty, staff, community members, and volunteers. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
