JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Biobehavioral Health (https://hhd.psu.edu/bbh) in the College of Health and Human Development (https://hhd.psu.edu/) , is seeking candidates for a Lab Coordinator in Dr. Hannah Schreier’s laboratory (https://sites.psu.edu/hannahschreier/) .

Research in the lab focuses on understanding the biological underpinnings of adverse experiences on youth and young adult chronic disease risk with an emphasis on functional immune outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform whole blood cultures and culture harvests

  • Run multiplex and ELISA assays, including use of the Ella equipment

  • Clean, process, and analyze data

  • Maintain and oversee quality control measures and standard operating procedures in the lab for all lab personnel

  • Adjust existing protocols and develop new laboratory protocols for ongoing projects as well as grant renewals

  • Maintain supplies of necessary materials, primarily lab consumables (gloves, pipette tips, etc.)

  • Monitor and track laboratory expenditures across ongoing studies; reconcile supplies and equipment purchased to invoices and purchase card statements.

  • Monitor project progress and research and suggest solutions as challenges arise

  • Serve as indirect supervisor to one full-time Research Technologist, graduate students, and undergraduate students which will include training, scheduling, and overseeing task completion.

Education and Experience Requirements:

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree plus one year of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A minimum of one year of experience working within a clinical or research laboratory context is required.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Candidates should have strong communication skills, work well in a team, and be able to work carefully, responsibly, and with great attention to detail. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience performing whole blood cultures and ELISAs.

The pay range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$42,100.00 - $61,000.00
