JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Cognition, Affect, and Temperament Laboratory (https://catlabpsu.com/) , in the College of the Liberal Arts (https://la.psu.edu/) at the Pennsylvania State University, headed by Dr. Koraly Pérez-Edgar, is seeking a full-time Human Research Technologist .

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2024, but applicants seeking a later start date will also be considered.

The Human Research Technologist will have the opportunity to work on a NIMH-funded study, investigating the association between parent-child synchrony and emotion modeling on anxiety risk in children. In doing so, the lab incorporates a number of techniques, including fNIRS, mobile eye-tracking, direct behavioral observation, and questionnaires.

This work will take advantage of the University’s broad resources, including the Child Study Center (https://csc.la.psu.edu/) and the Social, Life, and Engineering Sciences and Imaging (SLEIC) Center (https://www.imaging.psu.edu/) .

This is a two-site study in collaboration with Dr. Susan Perlman (https://www.childbrainlab.com/) at Washington University in St. Louis. As such, study personnel at Penn State will have virtual cross-site training opportunities.

This position requires a flexible schedule to include working some evenings and weekends, primarily to accommodate the availability of participating families.

Key responsibilities:

  • Recruit, schedule appointments, and maintain contact with children and their families (virtually or in-person)

  • Work with participants and their families to complete consent forms and collect in-person data

  • Collect, process, and analyze behavioral, neural, and/or eye-tracking data

  • General lab management duties (e.g., coordinate with the Institutional Review Board)

  • Coordinate with a large and dynamic team of researchers

  • Work with undergraduate students who conduct research or assist in preparation of data; may assist in the interviewing, training, and scheduling of these students

    Education and Experience: This position will be filled as a Human Research Technologist – Social Sciences – Professional, which requires an Associate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field, along with past experience in a lab that conducts behavioral coding, neuroimaging, or eye-tracking studies are preferred. Research experience with children is highly desirable.

In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

This is a limited-term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility for renewal.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$31,600.00 - $45,800.00
