Role Purpose

The role of Associate Counsel/Counsel, Business & Legal Affairs will serve as a legal point of contact, provide legal support and meaningfully contribute to key business decisions with respect to all aspects of content acquisition by NBCUniversal’s broad portfolio of television entertainment networks (NBC, USA, Bravo, Syfy, E!, Oxygen and Universal Kids) and our dynamic streaming service Peacock – including a wide range of issues relating to the distribution and licensing of film, television, news, sports, live events and original programming.

Job Duties

  • Independently draft, review, negotiate and interpret a range of licensing agreements and other legal documents

  • Provide timely and thorough legal advice on and analysis of potential risks and issues, as well as propose practical, responsive solutions

  • Identify and implement improvements to forms and processes

  • Partner with NBCUniversal business executives, as well as colleagues across the Acquisitions, Finance, Marketing, Product, Legal and other departments, to discuss and implement best practices and formulate new processes in connection with business needs

  • Other matters as needed at the direction of the division’s General Counsel and its Senior Vice President

Basic Requirements

  • Member of New York, California or other U.S. state bar

  • JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience for Associate Counsel, or 4+ years of experience for Counsel, in a law firm and/or in-house legal department of entertainment, media/technology, intellectual property, or other relevant industry, with title and salary dependent on years of experience, including a thorough understanding of and demonstrated proficiency in the television and/or digital media space.

  • Demonstrated ability, in a positive and practical manner, to approach complex legal scenarios in a thoughtful and analytic fashion

  • Ability to explain complex legal concepts to business and creative executives, build consensus across business units, think creatively, and collaborate with other executives to address business needs

  • Ability to work independently and interact with legal and business personnel of all levels

  • Solid academic credentials

  • Interest in the media industry

     

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Counsel salary range: $140,000- $170,000 and long-term incentive eligible, bonus eligible.
