Kelly Services Laboratory Technician in Union City, California

Kelly Science & Clinical is excited to connect you with this Entry-Level Temporary Laboratory Technician position in Union City, CA.

  • Temporary, Full-time- 35 hours per week. (Approx.)

  • Work hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 2:30 PM. (Approx.)

  • Pay rate: $26 - $30/hour (DOE)

Job Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate for an entry-level temporary laboratory technician position. The primary purpose of this role is to perform a variety of routine laboratory analyses, record keeping, and data entry. Additionally, the candidate may be involved in collecting wastewater samples or participating in special projects as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform careful and accurate physical or chemical analyses of wastewater and related materials following approved procedures.

  • Calculate and record results of analyses accurately, and investigate unusual samples and results.

  • Conduct typical analyses including pH, Total and Volatile Solids, Total Suspended Solids, Volatile Acids by distillation, Alkalinity, Hardness, and Nitrite.

  • Prepare reagents by weighing chemicals and using volumetric, calibrated glassware, and standardize them against known standards.

  • Perform various support tasks such as conducting regular laboratory safety checks, data entry, and cleaning glassware.

  • Ensure all assignments are performed in a safe manner, consistent with District safety rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Follow quality assurance procedures for sampling, analyses, and recordkeeping.

  • Perform any other duties appropriate for the scope and level of responsibility of the temporary position.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree majoring in Chemistry, Biology, or related field involving at least two semesters of laboratory coursework; or

  • One year of experience working in an environmental or other regulated testing laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles of chemistry and biology, algebra, standard approved laboratory practices and procedures, and laboratory safety.

  • Skill in operating a variety of laboratory equipment, interpreting chemical and physical data, working within safety standards, compiling and evaluating laboratory data, performing mathematical calculations, and coordinating multiple tasks/projects.

  • Ability to quickly learn standard laboratory operating procedures specific to the District, understand and carry out written and oral instructions, use a personal computer for data entry and retrieval, and troubleshoot equipment.

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: Ability to work effectively in a team-based organization, establish and maintain positive customer service attitude, effective working relationships with other District employees, and demonstrate strong communication skills.

  • Must possess the physical characteristics to perform critical duties of the class.

  • Candidates fresh out of college with no previous experience will be considered.
