Legrand NA Industrial Engineer II in Union City, California

Position Description

Main Job Duties:

  • Primary IE workload:

  • Operations process improvement (focuses in Manufacturing and collaborates with Purchasing, Quality Control, and Engineering).

  • Factory work cell/manufacturing process layout/workflow/materials flow design and improvement.

  • Facilities renovations (planning, contractor coordination, and city/landlord approvals).

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering team – NPIs (New Product Developments), ECOs (Engineering Change Orders), and OMSs (Operations Methods Sheets).

  • Supportive process control – packaging design, marketing/sales data flow, BOM/pick list accuracy, IT systems, etc.

  • Develops manufacturing/machining processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with strategic supplier and equipment vendors.

  • Identifies operations process problems via root cause analysis to problem solve, train, document, and revise issue cause(s).

  • Improves manufacturing/machining efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, materials flow, and facilities layout.

  • Researches, proposes, and executes facilities trade work (via contractors in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) to plan improvement in current operations as well as future work cell expansion.

  • Assists Manufacturing Engineering team:

  • Liaison with Engineering on NPI (New Product Introductions) integration and develop training and documentation schedule.

  • Implement, train, and follow-up on ECR/ECOs and other relevant processes that directly impact manufacturing.

  • Leads interdepartmental business process improvement (Sales/Marketing, Engineering, Finance, etc.).

  • Provides manufacturing and finance decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; estimating future requirements (such as product labor time studies).

  • Participates in budgets and tracking of Operations-based manufacturing expenses and Capital Expense Requests/Reports (CERs).

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology or other Business Field

  • 3+ years of broad technical experience in high volume manufacturing executing IE planning, designing, and enforcing operations processes.

    Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • MS and/or MBA

  • High mix, high output is preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of lean process flow as well as strong understanding of product life cycle, including design, manufacturing, quality, and end-of-life.

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing design and assembly. Ability to work with manufacturing from both an advisory and development role.

  • Full understanding of product costing as it relates to component and manufacturing process selection. Familiar with lean manufacturing techniques as well as lean six sigma concepts.

  • Experience in technical problem solving, analytics, and quality reporting.

  • Experience in production line training and work instruction documentation.

  • Excellent communications skills: presentation, influencing peers and other department leaders.

  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to adjust to changing priorities with enthusiasm.

  • Experience in CAD (e.g. SolidWorks) is preferred.

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Visio.

  • Able to exercise independent judgment and possess a high degree of personal initiative.

  • Operate in a team environment and thrive in a diverse culture.

  • Work environment is a combination of office and manufacturing facility. Light physical effort with occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

Finelite is seeking an Industrial Engineer (IE) with 3-5 years experience in the Lean Operations department who will execute IE planning, designing, and enforcing operations processes. The candidate leads utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to continuously improve efficiency of operations. The position requires strong proficiency in labor, methods, and equipment Return on Investment (ROI) calculation as well as facilities layout and work process control. As Finelite is committed to reducing waste and continuous 5S, the candidate must have superior lean manufacturing skills. Reporting to the Director of Lean Business Process (or IE Manager), the qualified candidate will be expected to work independently and diligently, using technical judgment, and manufacturing knowledge to support operational initiatives.
