TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E201 General Engineering Tech I - Tyler Maintenance in Tyler, Texas

Performs and coordinates advanced transportation engineering operations or maintenance support work such as construction and/or complex maintenance contract inspection; light and heavy equipment operation; roadway maintenance; traffic control; helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Administers construction and/or bridge inspection record-keeping activities in a District Area Office.Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices, safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.May train other employeesMonitors bridge inspection consultant activities and assists with coding as needed.Oversees complex maintenance and spot improvement contracts.Prepares plans, specifications, and estimate (PSE) using automated programs; reviews plans, enters data and updates, stores and maintains PSE documents and files.Researches plan sets and reviews proposed construction plans, specifications, and estimate (PSE) and supporting documents for accuracy and completeness to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, policies, procedures and design guidelines.Reviews and assists in the development of traffic control plans, coordinates with law enforcement agencies, monitors lane closures at construction sites, documents changes in the traffic control setup and coordinates with the Public Information Officer.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
