Virgin Galactic Director, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting in Tustin, California

The Director, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting will have responsibility for leading the SEC financial reporting process, as well oversight of all technical accounting areas. This individual will collaborate and consult often with relevant stakeholders, including Corporate Controller, CFO, external auditors, as well as individuals working in other functional or business areas. The Director, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting is key in the global Controllership organization and will act as the technical accounting and external financial reporting resource to others within the organization.

  • Lead the SEC financial reporting process and partner with various teams across the Company to ensure timely and accurate filings with the SEC, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q & 8-K, and proxy statements.

  • Monitor current activity of the FASB, SEC and other relevant authoritative bodies to identify impacts of new pronouncements and comment letters on the Company’s accounting policies and SEC filings.

  • Implement new accounting standards and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

  • Research US GAAP and prepare memoranda ensuring appropriate accounting for non-routine items and proposed transactions.

  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with the external auditors and oversee the delivery of audit request support.

  • Prepare materials for quarterly Disclosure Committee and Audit Committee meetings in collaboration with the VP, Corporate Controller.

  • Oversee the Company’s stock administration function, including the processing of all equity awards, management of the third party recordkeeper, and collaboration with the Chief People Officer regarding the Company’s equity compensation programs.

  • Oversee the Company’s payroll function and ensure the payroll manager and team processes payroll timely, accurately and in compliance with government regulations.

  • Assist the VP, Corporate Controller with analysis of current and future business processes and their impact on our accounting, disclosure and filing requirements.

  • Maintain effectiveness of SOX controls over financial reporting and technical accounting, stock administration and payroll processes.

  • Manage and develop a team to meet deadlines and support growth.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.

  • CPA is required.

  • 10+ years of experience in public accounting and external reporting (SEC) experience.

  • Subject matter expert on US GAAP and SEC regulations for the preparation of SEC filings and demonstrate a clear understanding of related authoritative literature governing financial reporting for public companies.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Workiva experience preferred.

  • Oracle experience preferred.

  • Proven ability in problem-solving, directing/leading and motivating others and working in cross-functional teams.

  • Able to operate at a detailed level without losing sight of the big picture.

  • Able to adhere to critical deadlines.

  • Strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment to excellence.

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $123,200.00–$197,150.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
