Select Genetics Hatchery Night Maintenance in Turlock, California

Position Purpose:

The hatchery Night Maintenance position is responsible for priority repairs and maintenance in a timely and efficient manner in our facility. This individual will utilize their experience with electrical, motor controls, mechanical, forklift, welding equipment, electric drill, electric meter, wrenches, and screwdrivers to assist the hatchery maintenance team with day-to-day operations in our hatchery and ensure the up-keep of our equipment. This individual must be able to perform hands-on maintenance. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity working with hatchery equipment.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ability to completes day-to-day maintenance of our facility and equipment.

  • Maintenance carries out all directives following the Company’s policies and applicable laws, including scheduling, assigning, and performing work.

  • Maintenance must have strong communication and collaborative skills, working extensively with team members.

  • Work requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and the use of numerous tools.

  • Work is subject to tight deadlines and multitasking.  Work includes long hours, including weekends.

  • Knowledge of general knowledge of machinery.

  • Able to work with a variety of tools and equipment including, but not limited to a forklift, welding equipment, electric drill, electric meter, wrenches, and screwdrivers.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to follow and adhere to the management of all of the company’s policies and regulations for biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety.

  • Must exhibit safe work habits and use of safety equipment and PPE when necessary.

    Principal  Accountabilities:

  • Troubleshoot and repair facilities including welding, electrical, ventilation, heating, automation equipment, and high-pressure air and water.

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, business ethics codes, and all applicable federal and state regulations.

  • Work in a culture of strong employee teams.

  • Maintaining the hatchery and equipment.

  • Respond to all work orders in a timely and professional manner.

  • Inspect and upkeep facilities and equipment on a routine basis.

  • Takes care of any kind of system failures including lighting systems, electrical systems, environmental control systems and heating system failures.

  • Maintain and repair a variety of equipment including automation equipment specific to the hatchery.

  • To be able to work with a variety of tools and equipment.

  • Report to the hatchery supervisor of any major maintenance issues.

  • The work environment includes exposure to dust and certain chemicals and fumes as well as extreme weather conditions and live animals.

    Other duties and projects as assigned by direct supervisor

Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • One year minimum of Maintenance experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Must have the ability to adapt time and efforts to high priority areas, including accommodating to various daily hours, on-call availability on nights and weekends on a rotating schedule.

  • Be able to lift more than 60 lbs., push/pull up to 60 lbs., bend and squat, grip small objects, and be capable of repeated actions.

  • Be able to walk and stand for long periods on different surfaces including concrete.

  • Must have good hand-eye coordination.

  • Does not own or operate around backyard poultry or swine operations off duty.

  • Proven problem-solving and change facilitation abilities.

    Additional required skills and abilities include a customer-service orientation; the ability to successfully handle multiple demands simultaneously; strong time management and organizational skills; attention to detail; strong communication skills in English including verbal, written, and listening; the ability to read and interpret company policies and procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations; the ability to communicate and interact productively with all levels of employees, the ability to work under pressure; The position may require Farm Maintenance to be available for an extended workday.  To be successful in this position, the candidate must be energetic, flexible, and have determination.

    Successful completion of a drug screen and work achievement verification required
