The Company

Job Purpose

The Manager – Operational Excellence will be responsible for operational success of Automation customers by actively identifying and implementing improvements in either behaviors, practices, processes or product design opportunities. The successful candidate will demonstrate and provide operational expertise and guidance, in collaboration with the distributor partners and customers, leading to continuous improvement of operational performance. Leading a multi-discipline team, use of data insights will be critical to identify best practice, process improvement and product opportunities in areas such as:

  • AHS truck optimization

  • Productivity - Cycle time, speed, payload, Queue improvements and whole of cycle performance analysis

  • System availability

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 30%, or as required for business purposes

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure continual productivity improvement and sustainability of the FrontRunner system in operation.

  • Develop and lead an effective team of multi-discipline engineers – Data analytics, mining engineering, mechatronics etc.

  • Coordinate internal parties from multiple business units for any Automation productivity work.

  • Align Operational Performance with other Komatsu activities and products

  • Provide detailed statistical reports to clients and Komatsu, presenting with clarity and certainty of required steps for improvement.

  • Track progress and benefits of improvement initiatives and record their value.

  • Develop, review, and continuously improve Operational program tools, KPI dashboard, and processes, including those to drive results and continuous improvement cycles.

  • Productivity modelling for new customers and new automated equipment introductions.

  • Perform line management activities such as recruiting and retaining, conducting performance reviews, maintaining career development plans, etc.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with Mining, Civil, Geological, or Industrial specialization, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 10+ years of relevant mining operational practice experience (Management, Planning, engineering etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to identify key stakeholders, form strong relationships, and influence others when required

  • Ability to work with little or no supervision

  • Customer focused, commitment to excellence

  • Results driven, with ability to manage multiple projects

  • Strong ability to communicate fluently and productively with clients

Desired Skills

  • MBA or Mine Engineering Master's Program

  • Project Management Certification

  • Black Belt Six Sigma or Lean certification

  • Team leadership experience in a mining environment

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with autonomous systems

  • Strong written communication skills

  • 10+ years of experience in Technology Development, Deployment, and Services experience

  • 10+ years of experience in the Mining industry or consultancy work experience in middle management positions pertaining to mine planning, mine operations or mine technology, or in a Komatsu role of Sales, Customer Service, or Performance Assurance
