Student Development Specialist, Mental Health Counselor

In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.
Qualifications for Employment
Education (Minimum Requirements):
Master’s degree in psychology, or related field. Must be Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Social Worker (LMSW or LCSW) in NYS.
Employment Experience Preferred:
Employment Experience Preferred: Minimum of one year of professional counseling experience post licensure. Employment experience in the area of counseling and outreach services post-secondary setting and/or with diverse and non-traditional populations preferred.
Pertinent Other: Occasional weekend and/or evening hours will be required.
Nature and Scope of Duties
The Student Development Specialist/Counselor reports to the Director of Counseling Services and/or their designee and performs the following duties within Counseling Services and the Student Development Unit:
Provides confidential, personal counseling and maintains a record for each student served.
Assists with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of theory-based and evidence informed best practices and programming to foster student development, with a focus on mental health intervention and wellness, persistence, retention, and achievement of desired outcomes.
Supports students in developing an academic and/or personal success plan focused on meeting the demands of their coursework and personal responsibilities to facilitate reaching personal, education and career goal attainment.
Assists in developing and delivering trainings for faculty and staff on matters related to multiple aspects of student mental health and development.
Provides psycho education to students and presentations to students and prospective students about student development offices and support offerings.
Assists with the development and maintenance of relationships with academic departments and campus offices for the purposes of offering student support and encouraging referrals to student development offices.
Develops and facilitates student support groups, as needed, to efficiently and effectively address common student development concerns.
Assists with the development and implementation of a campaigns promoting positive mental health and development.
Communicates with outside social service agencies in preparation for referrals, and makes referrals where appropriate.
Provides data and reports based on student support and outreach efforts as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a 12-month, Full-Time position with a salary range of $48,000-$52,000.
