The Chief Engineer will serve as the lead for a Roush Defense program over its full lifecycle to include design, integration, testing, and deployment to the customer.  Duties include performing systems requirements analysis, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition, technical management, architecture design, integration, system testing, and risk management.  They will be responsible for managing the overall engineering effort for that program and ensure it is supporting cost and schedule targets defined by the program manager.   This position is located in Troy, MI.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership of technical decisions and lead the systems engineering integrated product team
  • Lead for all major design reviews
  • Responsibility for ensuring that all technical products are developed, delivered, and a good balanced design is achieved within program manager defined cost and schedule constraints
  • Responsibility for the product design and resolution of architecture/design conflicts
  • Manages product development architecture/design (system, physical, data, communications, structure, survivability, thermal, etc.). Approval of system architectures and any changes, conditions, inputs and final resolution for requirements, trades, and alternatives
  • Responsible for outcome of whole system trades, Key Performance Parameter (KPP) and Technical Performance Measurement (TPM) compliance, vehicle weight, and power
  • Responsible for interface definition and arbitration, physical/functional management and technical management of the product baseline
  • Provides technical approval to the product structure documentation, Reliability Plan, and changes in interfaces or Size, Weight, Power & Cooling (SWaP-C) among subsystems
  • Responsibility for ensuring the overall product technical design integrity, design compliance with all requirements, and that the product will function as an integrated system within its intended environment Responsible for day-to-day product design and development engineering, system integration and product verification

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in engineering
  • Demonstrated systems engineering experience overseeing simple or complex technical projects
  • Proven experience in technical interface with customers
  • U.S. Citizen for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance
  • Analytical skills and ability to direct and consult on technical analyses
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and presentation
  • Knowledge of DOD acquisition process
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices
  • Ability to interface with network and hardware development and integration teams.
