JOB DOES NOT START UNTIL, February 20, 2025.APPLICANT SHOULD RECEIVE A COPY OF THE JOB DESCRIPTION AND JOB REFERRAL BEFORE CALLING EMPLOYER CONTACT. All workers should be physically able to meet and perform the work outlined in the contract for the entire period of time from 02/20/2025 to 12/20/2025. Workers will seed, transplant, cultivate, cut, house and strip tobacco. May also prepare barns and land, do maintenance of tools and equipment related to job. Worker should be able to bend, stoop and stand on their feet for long periods of time. Tobacco. Burley Tobacco: Duties include, but not limited to: Nursery care, laying, trimming, top trimming, storing and greasing and peeling. Workers will be trained for a period of two days (14 hours) after which the worker is expected to cut 100 sticks per hour - does not include dropped sticks. Other related jobs and duties may include cutting weeds between plants with a hoe: removing tops and shoots from plants, applying fertilizer (side dressing). Dark Fired Tobacco: Duties include but are not limited to: Nursery removal, placing, cutting buffers/greasing, cutting, storing and peeling. Workers will be required to cut wood and haul it to the barn to burn the tobacco. Wooden boards covered with sawdust are placed under the tobacco that is hanging in the barn. The boards are burned to smoke the tobacco and this is repeated until the tobacco reaches the appropriate color. Workers will remove the ashes that remain after the tobacco is burned. The worker is required to cut 50-60 sticks per hour. Air Cured Tobacco: Duties include but are not limited to: Nursery care, placing, cutting buffers/greasing, cutting, storing and peeling. Other Related Duties for All Types of Tobacco: Workers will cut the weeds between the plants with a pick or shovel; cutting tops and suckers on plants, and applying fertilizer. Row Crops: Duties to include, but not limited to: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store grain crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans, etc. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, and drill to tractor and drive tractor in field to till soil and plant/cultivate crop. Drive semitrucks, no CDL required, brush hogging, and mowing. Perform variety of other duties such as husking and shelling corn, lubricating and repairing farm machinery and unloading grain onto conveyors to storage bins and elevators Alternative work: General farm maintenance and other duties as required in the farming operation maintenance. Includes, but not limited to, preparing barns, draining fields, preparing land for planting, dropping sticks in field, maintenance of tool & equipment & other work as directly related to the crop activities for which the worker is hired. Also includes fixing and the clearing and painting of fence/barns. Such work will be offered when climate or crop conditions preclude working in the primary activities listed. General Conditions: If work is available beyond normal workdays, employer may offer, but not require, worker an opportunity to work additional hours. Workers will report to work at designated time and place as directed by assigned employer each day. workers may be requested to ten (10) hours per day depending on conditions in fields and the maturity of the crops. Also, workers may be requested to work on federal holidays and their Sabbath but will not be required. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available. Down time: Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer’s control. These periods can occur any time throughout the season. Worker may be required to work in fields when crops are wet with dew / rain and should have suitable clothing for conditions which include light rain and temperatures ranging from 10 degrees to more than 100 degrees. Workers should be able to stand, bend, stoop and work for prolonged periods of time and be physically fit to perform duties as assigned. Care must always be exercised with any use of equipment.
