This role is a senior member of the Information Technology Team with the responsibility of defining and creating the architectural strategy, framework, and roadmap to enable Old Dominion Freight Line to best serve our customers. This position will work closely with other business and IT leaders to shape the initial and ongoing requirements and definition of OD’s Cloud architecture and other delivery capabilities. The person in this position is responsible for championing and driving significant organizational and technological change with the goal of continuously improving OD’s ability to exceed our customer’s expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify options and plans for technology capabilities that accelerate the pace of IT delivery of business capabilities with repeatable patterns and by maximizing reuse.

  • Leads programs to develop, maintain and govern IT cloud architecture across the enterprise, ensure that data architecture and management is at the forefront of everything we do

  • Develops, socializes, and communicates IT cloud architectural standards, guidelines, and processes

  • Actively participates in the Architecture / Design Review Board processes

  • Significant contributor to establishing and operating the IT estimating process

  • Research and evaluate emerging technology, industry and market trends

  • When appropriate identify the business case for leveraging emerging technology delivery processes and solutions

  • Ensures technical solutions are comprehensive and consider end-to-end business processes .

  • Advises broader organization on options, risks, cost vs. benefit, and system impacts as balanced against established technology strategy

  • Collaborates with product owners and teams, project management and IT leaders to ensure alignment between architectural patterns and product and / or project goals and requirements

  • Lead / participate in vendor management initiatives with a primary focus on continuous improvement of vendor service delivery

  • Partner with Business and IT Leaders to develop cost-to-serve baselines for major business capabilities

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years senior IT experience in cloud architecture and developing business capabilities

  • Direct experience leading the architecture of Google Cloud platforms

  • Experience with data management, architecture patterns and large-scale application platforms

  • Requires experience with platforms and database technologies such as Oracle, DB2 and SQL

  • Agile software development (XP and/or Scrum) experience preferred

  • Requires knowledge and use of Enterprise Software Design Patterns

  • Experience with Application-to-Application integration

  • Aptitude for, desire to and experience in mentoring developers

  • Demonstrated ability to gain astute insight during periods of ambiguity

  • Exceptional partnering and communication skills

  • Demonstrated organizational change management leadership
