Intellisense Systems Inc Senior Principal Electronics Engineer in Torrance, California

Intellisense Systems, Inc.   is a Southern California technology innovator that solves tough, mission-critical challenges for our customers in the aerospace and defense markets.    We design, develop, and manufacture advanced products for ground, maritime, and airborne applications.

We’re seeking a Senior Principal Electronics Engineer to develop cutting-edge, ruggedized military hardware to support operations via air, land, or sea. Our department focuses on tightly integrated, compact sensing and computing technologies to deliver mission critical information. Our products have been deployed and proven across all seven continents in the harshest environments on the planet.

This role will be to design circuit boards, develop firmware, identify, and debug issues, and test solutions for a variety of electronic products from conception to production. Successful applicants will have experience developing electronic systems not just at a circuit board level but at a full system level with an understanding of top-level system requirements and industry standards.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead electronics projects through the design of both quick-turn and product-level circuit boards to meet using Altium Designer.

  • Develop bare-metal firmware in C for PIC microcontrollers (or similar) and/or VHDL for FPGAs or CPLDs.

  • Perform end-to-end development from requirements analysis at the systems level, to concept, design, test, and verification.

  • Develop plans for testing hardware and for fielding of prototypes to advance the potential of transitioning prototypes to production.

  • Collaborate and communicate with other members of the engineering team to ensure cohesive integration of all sub-systems.

  • Ensure the project's compliance with all applicable customer requirements and applicable industry standards.

  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to multiple departments and many groups of the company. Independently identifies complex problems and devises optimal and innovative solutions to problems that cross organizational boundaries

  • Achieve results in minimal expected time and budget. 

  • Continuously anticipate, communicate, track, and manage major risks and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Technical Skills:

     

  • B.S. or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • Significant experience (18+ years) of analog/digital circuit design with embedded software/firmware development experience.

  • Deep technical understanding and proficiency in C programming for microcontrollers and/or VHDL/Verilog for firmware .

  • Distingued record of creativity and innovation recognized as an autorhity in a field of engineering to due making advances in engineering principles, theories and concepts or their application

  • In depth, practical, hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting complex circuits – hardware and firmware – to the component level

  • Passion for electronics and hardware design with creative and critical thinking.

  • Strong E-CAD skill, preferably with Altium.

  • Experience in systems level understanding and ability to develop efficient electronics architectures for new products.

    People & Communication Skills:

     

  • Ability to deliver on multiple project timelines in a fast-paced, small team environment.

  • Excellent computer literacy and working knowledge of MS Office.

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) including presenting design progress during major project milestones (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR).

    Nice To Haves:

     

  • Technical leadership skillset or desire with potential to grow into technical supervisor.

  • Experience with MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461 testing.

  • Experience in leading multiple projects simultaneously while meeting milestone deliverables.

  • PIC based experience. ARM based experience is a plus.

  • Machine shop/electromechanical skills for quick prototype testing and verification.

  • Capable of producing engineering drawings and documentation with an understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM).

  • Strong background in physics and deep electronics fundamentals.

    Pay Range:

    $170,000-$215,000

    However, base salary for this position will vary based on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
