We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Working Lead, Microwave Tube Generalist Sr (Assembler) at our Torrance, California location. Work consists of making basic adjustments in procedures and processes to solve problems. Identifies, defines, and addresses general problems that are typically within the immediate job area or team. Problems are generally solved through drawing from prior experiences or standard procedures and basic analysis primarily gained through experience with machine shops for the manufacturer of parts and components. These parts/components are typically manufactured through the use of various 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machines, lathes & boring mills, presses, grinding and milling machines, etc.

JOB SUMMARY:

Requires the specific delegation by supervision for directing the work of an assigned number (five or more) of employees in similar or varied classifications. (Incumbents do not perform such functions as hiring, rating, disciplining or firing employees.) Job duties include and require performance of work tasks and work operations and giving direction, guidance, training and instruction to members of the work group; checking work operations, work procedures, machine and equipment usage and work efficiency. Assigns work tasks and resolves problems pertaining to work tasks and work operations.

Responsibilities

  • Typical duties and requirements are not meant to be all encompassing but a general framework of requirements/responsibilities for the manufacture of traveling wave tubes and associated subassemblies.

  • As a designated working leader, performs actual work operations required of the assigned work group and any other work tasks required by supervision. Performs work tasks of any job classification in the work group, when necessary, to complete work assignments and maintain work schedules.

  • Supports the team’s compliance activities for concerns such as: security, FOD compliance, environmental, fire and emergency, hazardous waste, calibration, shelf-life certifications, workplace and product safety.

  • Instructs assigned workers on any work task, machine or equipment operations performed by members of the work group. Gives direction, information and guidance concerning work tasks and work operations.

  • As necessary, checks machines, equipment and tools to be used or operated by members of the work group. Prepares machines, equipment and tools for operation or use in accordance with correct work procedures. Assigns specific workers to operation or use of machines, equipment or tools essential to performance of work tasks.

  • Checks for availability, completeness and correctness of materials, shop orders, work procedures, tools and other essentials. When assigned by management, checks work operations and completed work prior to release for inspection.

  • Provides direction, training and instruction, including safety precautions, in varied work activities concerning machines and equipment, fabrication, tools, processing, inspection, testing, maintenance and other tasks or work operations performed by group.

  • Directs a work group to achieve best utilization of time, skills, tools and equipment; determines proper sequences of work operations, as necessary, when such information is not furnished; suggests changes to specified work sequences for most efficient utilization of time, skills, tools and equipment.

  • May use computerized equipment to input, retrieve and perform simple analysis of information.

  • Performs required work tasks or work operations incidental to, and in addition to, work requirements of the assigned group.

  • Notifies supervision of all matters pertaining to, and affecting, the work of the group when such action is deemed necessary to carry out working leader responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Meets all the requirements of Labor Grade 16 and 20 Microwave Tube Generalist.

  • High School diploma or GED required

  • Experience using basic hand tools and welding.

  • 20/20 eyesight (corrected) and good hand-eye coordination are unnecessary, along with the ability to work with small parts and hand tools under a microscope for extended periods of time.
