Your role

Senior Systems Analyst manages and supports server based systems and processes within CBC-Radio Canada’s media production ecosystem.

Responsibilities:

  • Deploy, maintain and support physical and virtual server based systems and processes.

  • Provides leadership, planning and coordination of projects to effectively manage the upgrading and maintenance of supported systems, following formal methodologies and change management processes.

  • Provide escalation level support to frontline support teams. Delegate and coordinate work of frontline technical staff.

  • Provide support, training and mentorship to junior staff and colleagues.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve moderate to very complex issues within tightly integrated systems that support critical applications.

  • Participate in off-hours on-call schedule to provide 24/7 support for critical systems.

  • Develop and implement maintenance procedures, monitor system health, gather system statistics, and troubleshoot reported errors and alarms.

  • Conduct through analysis of technical issues and provide feedback to senior management and production partners.

  • Develop operational procedures and standards for new systems. Define, coordinate and execute test procedures to validate and improve system functionality.

  • Log issues and detail solutions in appropriate documentation systems to retain corporate memory and to aid in resolving future problems of a similar nature.

  • Implement best practices for scalability, supportability, ease of maintenance, and system performance. Configure and design systems to fulfill requirements for uninterrupted 24/7 operation.

  • Analyze requirements, evaluate hardware and software, and make recommendations for upgrades and acquisitions. Liaise with the vendors to ensure successful acquisition of required components as well as successful integration with other systems.

  • Plan, coordinate and implement system configurations for new installations or upgrades including security settings, directory structures, networking requirements, access control, capacity requirements and interfacing with databases and/or other applications to meet client requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires strong knowledge of hardware and software configurations, security, performance and utilization methodologies, and familiarity with networked/distributed computing environment concepts and high availability clusters.

  • Requires ability to write scripts using languages and tools available on supported platforms.

  • Advanced knowledge of programming and scripting languages must include, but not limited to -- Bash, Perl, PHP, SQL, and Powershell, a working knowledge of HTML and XML.

  • Solid understanding of video and audio system design, file based and streaming codecs, including publishing to cloud based end-points.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills, an understanding of trend analysis, familiarity with backup/recovery procedures and knowledge of technical processes and methodologies to ensure maximum system efficiency is required.

  • Solid understanding of network connectivity, technologies, protocols, and security.

  • Understanding of formal methodologies of project management and change management is an asset.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to manage multiple competing priorities and to manage time effectively.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of College or University in Computer Science, Information Technology, Television & Radio Production, or related discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years of applicable technical experience in either TV & Radio Production or Computer Science.

  • Proven experience installing, configuring and managing Linux and Windows based server operating systems.

  • CompTIA A+, ITF+, CCNA, CISSP, PMP or other relevant certifications.

  • Must have experience with network/system monitoring tools including Nagios, SolarWinds, SNMP and syslogs.

  • Administration of storage systems including permissions, pools, capacity, and hardware is an asset.

  • Experience designing and supporting file based workflows is an asset.

  • Traditional TV and Radio broadcast knowledge is an asset.

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is an asset.

  • Cloud based architecture and system administration is an asset.
