Department Overview

The Wealth Investment Office (WIO) is TD Wealth’s source for investment management strategy. We empower advisors and portfolio managers across TD Bank Group’s Wealth Management division — including Financial Planning, Private Investment Advice and Private Investment Counsel — by giving them the knowledge and tools they need to execute an efficient and consistent approach to Professional Portfolio Management. WIO is a place for professionals who love to manage money and get excited about the opportunity to consult with others on how to build and manage investment portfolios. This is not a place for people stuck in neutral. WIO is a dynamic, multifaceted, multi-channel group working on numerous priorities and initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

The group provides holistic investment advice, portfolio construction, and investment management strategy across a broad range of methodologies including traditional, endowment and risk-aware allocations. WIO is the engine behind the TD Wealth's investment strategy process and allocations. WIO also manages the Risk Priority Portfolios and is the investment manager behind the TD Core Managed Equity Portfolios and the Guided Corporate Bond Portfolio. In addition, WIO plays a role in the education and ongoing support of TD Wealth advisors through numerous internal and client-facing publications, as well as conferences, presentations, seminars and one-on-one communications to advisors.

Position Overview

This is a priority position as the Senior Consultant will oversee team members and work with partners in Practice Management, Product & Private Wealth Management to assist advisors in transitioning to a more process driven and efficient business model by specifically coaching them on portfolio construction, investment management techniques and the implementation of Professional Investment Management. Using the existing product shelf and recommended lists the Consultant will develop model portfolios, analyze the securities holdings of the identified advisors, develop talking points and action plans for the transition to modeled solutions and assist Practice Management and field management in guiding the advisor through the transition.

Position Summary:

• Understand the TD product platform and pricing methodologies and how they can be leveraged to create an efficient modeled book.

• Have direct experience working with Investment Advisors, Portfolio Managers, Financial Planners and understand the business dynamics, structure and goals of our professional advice channels.

• Demonstrate the development of the core competencies to impact & influence a targeted audience and change behaviors.

• Have direct experience leading & supervising teams; coordinating activities to ensure a positive experience for WIO's "clients" & partners, on-going coaching and mentoring team members and assisting with the execution of daily operations by overseeing & coordinating staff training, team building exercises and giving input to the Senior Manager Consulting on performance reviews.

• Lead Book Review & portfolio construction activities for all three of TD Wealth's investment advisory channels.

• Source and analyze the holdings & portfolio construction techniques within individual advisor's book for the purpose of coaching and assisting advisors to transition to a more scalable and efficient portfolio construction methodology

• Will have a proven ability to analyze, breakdown and explain complex investment management strategies, products and services to experts and novices alike.

• Educate advisors and Field Managers on developing, building and maintaining a scalable and efficient approach to investment management.

• Assist advisors in aligning a well-documented investment philosophy, value proposition and discovery process with a prescribed portfolio construction methodology that can be deployed over the majority of their book of business

• Develop model portfolios for a variety of client risk profiles, circumstances and account sizes

• Counsel advisors on how to build and maintain solution sets for small accounts & households

• Coordinate with and support Practice Management & other field partners in the on-going role clarification, monitoring and follow-up with advisors to ensure they achieve the long-term goals with regards to building a scalable and efficient practice.

• Work with field and National Office partners to ensure a transparency with regard to on-going actives and the quick resolution of any role conflicts or overlap with regard to Advisors and field management.

• Contribute to market-related publications and conference calls on an occasional basis.

• Coordinate with and support the Product team in educating advisors on the different trading platforms and pricing methodologies that can be deployed in the transition to a more efficient business model.

• Support & deliver on the development of turn-key reporting on critical book metrics; performance, holdings, dispersion, security concentrations, asset allocation, model adoption for the field and senior management.

• Collaborate with the Compliance monitoring teams to build a deep understanding of nuances and priorities of their roles in supporting the different advisor channels.

Key accountabilities include:

• Business plan to drive the adoption of the components of Professional Investment Management across all Advisors and platforms in PWM as measured by book metrics.

• Support infrastructure in building a multi-factor holistic view of an advisor's book of business for the purpose of analyzing security positions, asset allocation and portfolio construction techniques.

• Oversee and monitor timeliness, content, and track success of responses to advisor inquiries and requests for information regarding managed investments, portfolio & book reviews.

• Provide team with coaching, tools & resources to build recommendations and possible solutions sets that can be adopted by the advisor to transition their business to modeled solution set and lower overall product dispersion.

• Working with the team, WIO and partners to level set the client and Advisor experience across PWM.

• Provide on-going support to the Senior Manager and Chief Wealth Strategist by coordinating designated activities of the team, monitoring workflows, adherence to timelines and solving problems.

• Educate, train & coach implementation team too;

  • Develop a deep understanding of TD Wealth's fee-based and managed account platforms and corresponding pricing methodologies and assist the advisors in adopting newer technologies in building a more scalable practice

  • Build and integrate an investment philosophy into TD Wealth's Advisor population,

  • Identify and transition to modeled solutions sets that can be deployed over the majority of the advisor's book.

  • Provide on-going support to field managers & advisors as they execute on transitioning their book of business based on their investment philosophy and their adopted modeled solutions sets.

  • Identify team member strengths and opportunities, coaching & training to elevate impact and influence with our cleints and partners.

• Act as liaison between the WIO and our key identified business partners & field management

• Participate in advisor training, coaching and branch presentations as required

• Support WIO initiatives that may not be directly related to managed investments

• Scale our coaching efforts through targeted group training of Regional Managers, Branch Managers, MCS, Wealth Advisors, Senior RMs, SRMs. Provide field managers visibility into proper execution and enable their coaching across the broader teams. Integrate with, support and provide full transparency to our partners for maximum impact and leverage; PCS, TDAM, National Office

• Support advisors with winning share of wallet, OFI assets, use of Wealth investment strategy process (SAA/DAA is based on our grids) i.e. adoption of firm models (SMP, FGP, RPP, Core, RFP), increase LEI

• Oversee the establishment of consistent; reporting, coaching and support on portfolio construction and investment management process for identified FPs, PIA, and PMs, with the goal of delivering legendary client experiences anchored in the Four Wealth Pillars;

 FP – New FPs, Premier FPs

 PIA – PMP, FP to PIA transitions

 PIC – New PIC PMs, Senior PIC PMs

• Establish, maintain and review process and procedures to ensure efficiencies are maximized – both within the team and with stakeholders and control partners.

• Manage the overall relationship of our partners and stakeholders

• Collaborate with partners to prioritize and develop impactful programs and materials to support proprietary sales teams

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies, develop best practices and work with Control Partners to improve process

Education/Accreditations:

• Undergraduate degree with a major/speciality in Business, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics

• Investment industry accreditation (e.g., CSC, CIM)

• Completion of or working towards completion of the CFA Institute’s Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation

• Financial planning & Post-graduate degree designation desirable

Other Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

• 15+ years of experience in a variety of roles in the financial services industry

• Team development, management, leadership and one-one-one coaching experience a necessity

• Practice Management experience an asset

• Strong knowledge of financial markets

• Strong understanding of TD Wealth's managed products including mutual funds, ETFs, and SMAs

• Strong knowledge of TD Wealth's investment management platforms, deployment and pricing methodologies

• Relevant experience & knowledge with regard to working with advisors and their teams

• Strong time management, prioritization and organizational skills are required to manage multiple deadlines and priorities

• Strong verbal written & presentation skills

• Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills needed to effectively work with other members of the team and other areas of TD Wealth

• Excellent technical skills and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office are required; strong Microsoft Excel skills are essential

• Knowledge and understanding of Bloomberg and Morningstar is preferable

• Ability to work both independently and as a team player

• Outgoing individual who demonstrates keen initiative, flexibility and ability to react quickly to changing needs, positively rising to challenges presented
