Canadian Tire Manager, Employee Communications in Toronto, Ontario

What you'll do

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, this Manager will manage employee communications is responsible for ensuring communications to employees are consistent with the Canadian Tire’s strategic direction, values and company brand.

  • Develop and execute employee communication strategies to help increase employee engagement.

  • Lead a team to ensure all client communication deliverable items are executed on time, with accuracy and to stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Engage in regular dialogue with Canadian Tire business leaders and stakeholders to maintain an understanding of the current communications environment, challenges, and support requirements.

  • Work with cross-functional partners to tell our brand, corporate, and culture stories to employees. This means being a sought-out and reliable communication expert on creative ways to tell our story and to help build brand ambassadors with employees.

  • Help ensure proper and consistent positioning and increased understanding of the company brand, values with strategy with employees.

  • Manage the communications strategy and execution to support regular and adhoc reporting and work with internal clients to develop materials.

  • Creative development, writing, proofreading and editing for a wide variety of written and presentation materials, including Workplace posts and remarks for senior leadership.

  • Continually measure the effectiveness of communications channels and recommend opportunities for improvement and additional value.

  • Research and stay current on emerging trends, best practices and opportunities in the field of communications with the goal of improving the execution of communications.

  • Regular and ongoing feedback, coaching and career development of direct reports.

  • Develop effective relationships with internal clients, vendors and suppliers to ensure delivery of quality, cost effective and timely services across the corporation.

What you bring

  • Six to eight years of progressive communications management experience.

  • Dynamic ability to communicate messages and a strong understanding of communications.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with business leaders, business units and client groups.

  • A strategic thinker/planner with a demonstrated track record in employee communications, employee engagement, issues management and problem solving, including seeking, creating and championing creative communication solutions.

  • Demonstrated expertise in planning and implementing strategic employee communication programs.

  • Experience working with executives in a communication coaching/counsel capacity.

  • Highly developed interpersonal communication style; self-starter with the ability to balance multiple projects and priorities; team player.

  • Experience managing and coaching direct reports.

  • Post secondary education in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or related degree/diploma.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading and presentation skills.
