Director, Global HR Risk and Controls Management

Lead and oversee Global HR’s internal controls function to mitigate non-financial risks and ensure business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
Lead and drive a client focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Define and implement Global HR’s risk governance framework and internal controls to manage and mitigate non-financial risks.
Partner with key stakeholders to identify, assess, monitor, report and respond to non-financial risks to ensure Global HR delivers against strategies, commitments and regulatory requirements.
Understand, and promote, awareness of Risk Framework and how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Create an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas, in accordance with Scotiabank Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Global HR oversight (covers approximately 1,700 employees)
Operate independently day-to-day, often under unfamiliar and ambiguous circumstances
Receive strategic direction from HR leaders and “second line of defense” teams

Curious with a continuous improvement mindset
Broad and diverse Bank experience with strong business acumen; HR experience an asset
Strong understanding of the Bank’s risk appetite and compliance framework as well as HR’s regulatory environment, reporting requirements and context of external environment
Ability to work independently within a deadline-driven environment
Strong strategic and analytical capability. Thinks critically to evaluate broad impacts of work
Able to assess difficult compliance and other regulatory issues, exercise sound judgment expeditiously with respect to such issues and defend decisions
Proven ability to build and maintain effective business relationships, influence others and comfort interacting with senior executives
Spanish language skills are an asset
Degree in related field; HR designation is an asset
