SMBC Credit Administration Analyst in Toronto, Ontario

Role Description

This position performs the periodic credit review of customers. This includes the production of a credit application, credit review and credit grading. This position is responsible for the thorough and accurate analysis and assessment of the creditworthiness of the bank’s customers. Additionally, this position, during the credit analysis process, reviews and ensures compliance with all covenants and terms and conditions of the credit and reviews all associated documentation and collateral.

Role Objectives: Delivery

  • Analyses borrowers’/potential borrowers’ financial performance, industry conditions, prepare long term projections and compiles credit application in compliance with internal rules

  • Investigates, researches, and discusses borrower requirements and transactions with deal administers and account managers related to credit application.

  • Responds to relevant Credit Department’s requests by investigating and assessing validity with respect to change in condition in each credit, to protect Bank’s position and preserve the credit quality.

  • Co-ordinates with account managers the periodically update of the future Action Plan with low profitability and lower grade customers and reports the plan to the Credit Department.

  • Co-ordinates with Business Promotion team for borrowers’ financial reports and other specific requirements.

  • Monitor financial performance of borrowers and special weak credit and initiates periodic reviews.

  • Prepares and provides special reports on borrowers and industry research upon request by the dept. head or account officers.

  • Prepares various daily, weekly and monthly reports on borrowers (facilities, exposure etc.) to circulate to dept. head, account officers, and management.

  • Prepares quarterly Head Office reports related to problem loans and asset classifications.

  • Assists Treasury in preparing applications for inter-bank money lines.

  • Performs weekly check in GBR (loan application system) for borrowers’ / parent’s grading change as well as conditions / instructions/ opinions posted by Credit department and auditor.

  • Assists Department Head in completing special projects and various reports as requested.

  • Ensures to be in full compliance with all the Bank’s policies and procedures, including Anti-Money Laundering policies, and the requirements of the relevant regulatory bodies as communicated by SMBCC’s Compliance Department.

Role Objectives: Interpersonal

Internal: Most Bank departments to exchange information, including credit department in NY & Tokyo to discuss credit or application matters, and SMBC affiliates to exchange credit information/data for shared customers.

External: Customers to provide financial services. Agent banks to exchange information.

Qualifications and Skills

  • University degree in Business, Commerce, or equivalent

  • 5 years and above previous related corporate banking experience

  • Experience in preparing credit applications, performing cash flow analysis, ability to read and interpret financial statements

  • Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, enquiry knowledge of Loan IQ and S&P Capital IQ

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to details

  • Ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against deadline

  • Able to communicate and coordinate with various departments across the bank.
