How you will create an impact
Reporting to the Regional Underwriting Executive, the AVP, Private and Non-Profit will lead our Private and Non-Profit team in Canada. The individual will be responsible for identifying, developing and implementing strategies to profitably grow our portfolio, ensuring we continue to be a market leader. They will be responsible for developing and maintaining key broker, client and partner relationships.
People Management: lead a national underwriting team to drive profitable growth focusing on Private and Non-Profit Directors and Officers, Employment Practices Fiduciary Liability Insurance and Crime Insurance.
Promote a team culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and learning.
Mentor and train staff through effective leadership, role modelling and training programs.
Market Presence: build, solidify and lead broker and client engagements, and produce new business by working with our broker network to source new opportunities.
Diligently underwrite and service clients.
Collaborate with Sales and Distribution and other colleagues to achieve positive outcomes with both renewals and new business, and execute on opportunities.
Ensure you and your team are maintaining accurate files and adhering to all standards including service level agreements for premium processing, policy issuance and file maintenance.
Produce accurate and timely information for senior management; assisting in the budgeting/forecasting process on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
What you’ll need to succeed:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proven Financial Lines underwriting experience.
People Management experience with strong ability to lead and manage a team of underwriters.
Flexibility and ability to adapt to rapidly changing work environments
Proven ability to deliver difficult messages whilst influencing positive outcomes.
Organized, highly motivated, self-starter who takes responsibility for own performance and demonstrates leadership in their approach to work, training and knowledge seeking.
Proven ability to work within a team framework, to provide a positive influence on others and to support the team manager as required.
General understanding and awareness of people’s behaviors, their complexities and how to deal with them.
CFA/CIP/FCIP/CRM designation is considered an asset.
