The role of Senior R&D Scientist for Cytiva is responsible for being the point of contact for all R&D activities within Tonglu, and project managing complex R&D projects.

This position is part of the Tonglu R&D department located in Hangzhou Tonglu and will be on-site. At Cytiva, our vision is, to advance future therapeutics from discovery to delivery.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Be the lead R&D associate and point of contact for the Tonglu R&D team, supporting the commercial organization with technical guidance. Provide support to and working collaboratively with Sourcing, Supplier quality engineering in raw material performance managing, supplier audit via acting as technical expert.

  • Visit customers to better understand their processes and pain points. Manage complex new product development projects to introduce new products in the Tonglu manufacturing site. Ensuring that project outputs are transitioned appropriately from R&D to commercialization, through effective collaboration with legal, IP, manufacturing and sales teams.

  • Manage a technical R&D lab with a range of scientific equipment.

  • Use your technical expertise to guide and develop the next generation of engineers and scientists within Tonglu R&D. Work with the Global R&D team to develop the standard work for a R&D project to the next level.

  • Lead internal and external ISO audits as R&D representative.

  • Lead internal and external project meetings to work collaboratively with key stakeholders, customers, sales, supply chain, quality and product management.

  • Planning, execution and delivery (including coordination and activity leadership of small teams) of direct scientific work assignments to agreed quality and temporal metrics. Technical writing of reports, publications and product support materials to agreed timelines.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Master in Materials Science or similar technical background, such as Paper Making, Nonwoven, or Chemistry

  • Prior experience of fibres or fibre processing or chemistry or fabric forming, and prior experience of laboratory filtration applications or industry air/liquid filtration applications.

  • Experience of direct customer interaction on technical and product performance challenges.

  • At least 7 years post-graduate experience in R&D environment. Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good English speaking and writing. And good interpersonal skills, demonstrable communication/presentation and scientific writing skills, preferably in the form of a bibliography of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals.

  • Demonstrated teamworking and scientific coordination/leadership skills.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience working in a rapidly changing commercial R&D environment preferably within laboratory or industrial filtration systems environment.

  • Product development experience and knowledge of product development frameworks and procedures.

  • Prior experience of working to GMP and/or ISO9001/ or ISO 13485 quality standards.
