Bermuda Hospital Health Unit Coordinator in Tomah, Wisconsin
POSITION DETAILS
Full-time with benefits, 80 hours in the two week pay period, Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 5:30pm; no weekends, nights or holidays.
JOB SUMMARY
The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) provides organizational, receptionist and clerical support to the care of patients presenting to Acute Care Department under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Independent Practitioner (L.I.P.) within their scope of care. The HUC functions as a resource to members of the healthcare team as well as patients and visitors, is familiar with multiple Tomah Health resources and plays an integral role in communication across the continuum of care.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTION
Maintains an organized and businesslike environment at the nursing station in order to assist members of the health care team in the performance of their jobs despite high stress factors.
Participates in health care planning to meet the total needs of patients. Assists in admission, transfer and discharge process of patient utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Performs clerical duties including coordinating admissions, answering phones, and entering electronic data.
Demonstrates proficiency in regards to the computer documentation in multiple systems.
Supports the healthcare team by anticipating and responding to team requests and patient needs.
Responds promptly and courteously to phone calls, demonstrating appropriate etiquette, with an emphasis on customer service and follow through.
Conveys messages (e.g. electronic, verbal, and written) promptly to the patient and all individuals interacting with the patient and health care team.
Utilizes patient call system promptly, appropriately and according to department provided training, per patient care unit. Focuses on timeliness of response and brings request to the attention of the staff.
Monitors, orders and completes HUC related tasks such as preparing consent forms, questionnaires, calling ancillary staff, calling departments, and updating registration system.
Demonstrates the ability to obtain, monitor quantities, and verify accuracy of forms, supplies and equipment received and takes steps to ensure they are in working order.
Communicates pertinent information regarding departmental issues and concerns to the Acute Care Director or other appropriate person(s).
Maintains professional expertise by attending staff and in-service meetings, 80% attendance required.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed and within the scope of abilities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Graduate of an accredited college or HUC vocational program preferred.
HUC Certification preferred.
Previous healthcare experience preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated interacting positively with all customers and employees.
Proficient computer skills with the ability to operate within Windows and use complex equipment.
Ability to work with all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Self-directed with full recognition of limitations of the role and must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress and with minimal supervision.
Possess as high level of intelligence, integrity, responsibility, and ability to comprehend/analyze details.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear.
Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.
Visual acuity is needed to assess color changes, to verify accuracy of written materials.
