Summary of Primary Function General Purpose of Position
The CPE Program Manager/Department Supervisor is responsible for the provision of spiritual care services and supervision of the chaplaincy team at a particular clinical group, a site, and a hospital including operation of and education with the CPE Program within the clinical group, site, and hospital. This role coordinates scheduling of shifts, addresses staffing needs, and oversees the daily operation of the chaplaincy team. As an educator, the Manager provides units of CPE and collaborates with other chaplains in addressing the spiritual care needs of patients, families, staff, and CPE students. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the Manager provides spiritual care and emotional support within the context of illness, crisis, loss, and death. Essential Job Functions

Supervise the chaplaincy team at the assigned clinical group, site, or hospital.
Manage the daily operation and provision of Spiritual Care.
Create and maintain monthly/weekly schedule for the chaplaincy team, including weekend and night on-call coverage.
Manage PTO’s, urgent time-off requests, daily changes in scheduling.
Work with the Market Director to promote team cohesion and effective relational dynamics within the chaplaincy team.
Address job performance issues and disciplinary action plans regarding team members in consultation with the Market Director.
Facilitate communication between the clinical leadership of the group, site, or hospital and the chaplaincy team regarding events, incidents, and assignments in which the chaplaincy team is asked to participate.
Participate in strategic planning with the Market Director as part of the leadership team of the department.
Contribute to the ongoing professional development of Spiritual Health Services across BSMH and acts as a resource for the ongoing professional development of chaplains.
Demonstrate knowledge of the Ethical and Religious Directives of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and adhere to the policies of the organization as a Catholic healthcare organization.
In consultation with the Market Director, provide creative and innovative programming within the CPE Program of St. Vincent Medical Center, best meeting the needs of various student populations including but not limited to:
Provide a structure for CPE unit group seminars and individual sessions.
Facilitate the planning and implementation of units of CPE in accordance with the standards of ACPE and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
Recruit, schedule, and supervise CPE programs for the BSMH system, including any online program.
Oversee the admission process of students into the on-site and online CPE programs.
Establish and facilitate the Professional Advisory Group for the CPE Program, providing leadership and service to the committee, especially in areas of accreditation/re-accreditation of the CPE program, ongoing evaluation, and development of the curriculum of the program, the financial solvency of the program and the overall operation of the program.
Oversee funds collected for the CPE program from BSMH where student placements occur.
Coordinate clinical placements in BSMH facilities.
Maintain site specific handbooks.
Make site visits as needed and as required by ACPE Standards.
Supervise the orientation, clinical work, and growth of the CPE students, including scheduling, ongoing quality review of ministry performance, and assignments to clinical areas.
Work collaboratively with staff chaplains providing mentoring to CPE students.
Direct the marketing and advertising of the CPE program.
Is a resource for developing CPE within BSMH and for maintaining accreditation standards.
Prepare the annual budget for CPE and provide the finance department with requested data regarding Medicare reimbursement.
Participate in departmental and market planning, implementation of mission goals and objectives, daily reports, and committee work.
Initiate and pursue one’s own professional continuing education as well as maintaining certification in one’s certifying agency both as a chaplain and as an ACPE Certified Educator.
Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Deliver job functions of Chaplain III as needed.
Is responsible for all other duties as assigned.

Licensing/Certification
Completed four or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) (required)
Board certification by a professional certifying organization (National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Association of Professional Chaplains, Association of Jewish Chaplains, Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Association of Pastoral Counselors) (required)
Advanced certification in specialty area of Chaplaincy, Ethics or an equivalent (required)
Education
Master's degree in Theology or Pastoral Studies (required)
Master's degree in Divinity (preferred)
Doctoral degree in Theology, Ministry or Philosophy (preferred)
Work Experience
4 years of progressive experience as a Chaplain (required)
1-2 years experience as a people leader (preferred)
Training
Completion of the BSMH Chaplain Leader Program (preferred)
