The Opportunity

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provides technical and analytical information management solutions through the use of software and databases for domestic or international projects.

  • Functions as a lead GIS Specialist.

  • With minimal supervision, has responsibility for execution of GIS-related project task administration and execution.

  • May supervise, mentor or provide technical direction to other GIS staff on projects of low to medium complexity.

  • Demonstrates additional levels of implementation design, consulting, or planning services.

  • May independently support project execution or business development activities.

The Team

The Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. has its mission to provide a full range of services to our primary client base - U.S. Government agencies and departments. With the unique skill sets we have developed during the 100-plus years of service to our U.S. Government agencies client base, we are able to provide one-of-a-kind solutions to complex mission objectives that arise out of specific challenges faced by and unique to these agencies. Our primary areas of focus are: Architecture/Engineering (A/E) Services, Defense Program, Design/Build, Classified, and Environmental.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads in developing, maintaining and updating geographic information systems standards

  • Provides guidance and direction on geographic information systems, standards, applicable criteria and Black & Veatch policies

  • Prepares a variety of complex geographic information systems deliverables for larger and multiple projects, including one or more of the following:

  • Performs spatial analyses and creates information products from GIS and related software, including products used in master plans

  • Manages data and applications in an ArcGIS Enterprise environment

  • Participates as a team member in master planning efforts, including one or more of the following:

  • Supports complex and sensitive planning and programming studies for DoD and Federal clients.

  • Understands and applies military master planning principles, methodologies, and best practices

  • Participates as a team member in master planning, project programming, and charrettes

  • Prepares master planning report content under supervision of lead planners #LI-SS2

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess an advanced knowledge of geographic information systems principles and applicable standards and the ability to interpret geographic deliverable content; five plus years of related work experience; and have the following:

  • Advanced proficiency with Esri’s desktop GIS mapping software, including ArcGIS Desktop with Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extensions and ArcGIS Pro with Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extensions, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, and associated applications

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

  • Ability to create analysis maps and diagrams utilizing GIS, CAD, Illustrator, and/or InDesign) independently or with other staff

  • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined planning problems

  • Ability to read, understand, summarize, and apply existing planning documents, studies, and regulations

  • Excellent interpersonal skills for facilitating relationships

  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously

  • Eligibility for U.S. government security clearance

  • Ability to travel/work at Military installation both in the U.S. and overseas (valid U.S. Passport required)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors' degree in Physical, Earth, or Life Science from an accredited university; or equivalent job-related experience. Typically a minimum of 5 years of experience performing related activities. Solid knowledge of GIS applications / development tools as applicable. Understanding of engineering-related concepts and functions desired.
