Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Mercy Health Life Flight Network (MHLFN) Clinical Manager serves as a manager with a direct reporting relationship to the Director of Clinical Services and is directly accountable for internal and external clinical aspects of the organization. Develops internal education and training programs in collaboration with the Education Coordinator, collaborates with the Outreach Educators for all external education. Fulfills administrative duties as well as completes clinical activities necessary to assure alignment to the program mission and vision. Responsible for oversight of all clinical projects and initiatives. Responsible for managing the systems and process that support delivery of the highest quality care transport attainable at all levels, while ensuring a cost-effective training program, delivery of clinical care, and attaining clinical and quality initiatives across all age groups. Actively participates in selecting, motivating and in providing for the growth of a qualified staff; attains optimal contributions from the medical staff.

Essential Job Functions

  • Facilitates patient care including organization and management within established policies, procedures, standards of care, budgetary parameters, and strategic objectives.

  • Assures excellent patient care, safe operations, high customer satisfaction and program success through the identification and integration of clinical, aviation, and communication functions; directly managing the Education Coordinator and the Outreach Educators.

  • Propose, review and enforce Clinical Practice Guidelines, policies and procedures by updating Clinical Practice Guidelines and related policies and procedures as needed, at least annually and monitors compliance with Clinical Practice Guidelines, policies and procedures.

  • Advises Lead RNs, Lead Medics, and Director of Clinical Services when corrective measures need to be taken when Clinical Practice Guidelines, protocols, policies, or procedures are not followed.

  • Recognizes opportunities to improve care safety, quality, and efficiency and acts as a change agent to support improvement initiatives, based on evidence-based practices.

  • Ensures that clinical service goals clearly align to MHLFN mission and values and are applied in all patient settings.

  • Ensures compliance with strategic plan and financial performance of the organization. Maintains a sound fiscal system for clinical services and education.

  • Utilizes appropriate interpersonal and management styles to create a working environment that is conducive to the achievement of tasks and provides a high quality working environment for all team members.

  • Demonstrates technical and clinical competence through continuing educational activities.

  • Responsible for developing and participating in performance improvement activities in accordance with the institutional quality plan. Holds accountability for Core Measures and re-enforces core measure compliance with staff.

  • Monitor compliance to policies and procedures and ensure corrective measures are instituted if policies and procedures are violated.

  • Ensures that high quality medical care is provided by a staff of appropriately trained, duly certified and licensed practitioners.

  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems ( CAMTS) accreditation. Minimizes liability to the organization by anticipating problems, evaluating magnitude of the problem and taking actions to correct problem or reduce risk.

  • Prioritizes management activities to meet established time frames.

  • Serves as a mentor and role model within the organization and professional community.

  • Participates in the development, review and revision of policies and procedures consistent with the MHLFN practice. Adheres to all standards and policies regarding safety/patient initiatives.

  • Identifies and supports evidence-based practice and nursing research opportunities and activities. Collaborates with and supports established nursing organization structures.

  • Adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to designated Manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.

  • Participates in and encourages associates to participate in activities that benefit the community.

Licensing/Certification

  • Current Ohio RN License (required)

  • Any advanced certification required by The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS): Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN), or Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN) (preferred at time of hire, required within 2 years of hire)

  • Ohio Paramedic license (preferred)

  • Certified Medical Transport Executive (CMTE) through Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) within 3 years of hire (preferred).

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (required)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) (preferred)

  • Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN), Master's of Business Administration (MBA) or Master's of Healthcare Administration (MHA) (preferred)

Work Experience

  • 5 years of Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Critical Care Transport experience as a medical crew member (required)

  • 3 years of supervisory experience (preferred)

  • Previous experience with Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) standards (preferred)
