As Amazon's last-mile delivery provider, Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) vision is to be the world’s best owner-operated business opportunity, empowering small business owners to build a better life for themselves, their associates, and their communities by operating safe, high quality, and sustainable logistics companies.

To that end, Amazon is seeking an exceptional Senior Program Manager who will be part of a group that’s defining and building value added services for DSPs) to set them up for success and rapid growth. Value Added Services (VAS) are introduced to new partners with the objective of overcoming entry barriers to start a logistics delivery business and operate it efficiently. We ensure that DSPs have a hassle-free and enriching operational experience by utilizing best-in-class services offered by Amazon selected vendors.

The successful candidate in this role will have a strong background managing third party vendors from recruiting and marketing industry. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with proven background in recruitment of employees in a small-scale environment. The candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify root causes of driver shortage, implement actionable ideas and execute projects to obtain expected outcome to address the issues of driver capacity. You are comfortable to communicate with DSP owners to dive deep and work backwards to generate creative ways of alleviating their pain points. You are comfortable dealing with ambiguity and enjoy working on different problems every day. You must be an excellent writer who can succinctly communicate complicated issues in business terms. You are a leader who can influence people, prioritize, communicate clearly and compellingly and understand how to deliver outstanding results within a strong and talented team, as well as being able to drive change across other organizations.

Key job responsibilities

• Create and drive conceptual ideas on hiring delivery drivers for Amazon’s Delivery Service Partners.

• Manage 3rd party vendors, resolve pain points, and work with country teams to create development plans for new services, and execute project plans for the launch of new features.

• Support world-wide program teams to implement the local VAS strategy and ensure services are provided in full and in the right quality

• Manage pilot projects to test new services and roll out negotiated services across the country, continuously improve our service offering

• Act as the ‘product owner’ for assigned categories, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact the product. This includes owning forecasting, monitoring, driving changes to achieve business objectives.

• Have a thorough understanding of the product category, seasonality and continually monitor customers feedback and vendor's development

• Be main Point of Contact (POC) in case of escalations and manage vendor relationships on an ongoing basis

• Coordinate consolidated order execution and administration

A day in the life

This role is based in Tokyo and allows you to connect with internal stakeholders from compliance, account management, legal and finance. You will be working closely with external local vendors that offer HR and marketing services to alleviate pain points in driver recruitment of our logistics partners. You’ll look after all elements of vendor relationships, from acquiring services, negotiating costs and creating legal contracts in Japanese to keep track of program performance.

About the team

Amazon Logistics, or AMZL, handles ‘last mile’ delivery duties in partnership with third-party distribution businesses. We utilize creative thinking and continuous improvement initiatives to offer business services as products to our delivery service partners that are small to mid-scale companies and also net new entrepreneurs. The team works in close collaboration with global stakeholders based in North America and Europe.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5+ years of experience in HR services and recruiting industry OR 5+ years of experience in vendor negotiation and project management in logistics-related industries

  • Experience in process improvement using data

  • Business level of Japanese and English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in HR shared services, recruiting services, marketing services

  • Experience of entrepreneurship and working in a start-up environment

  • Excited about working in a diverse group and contributing to an inclusive culture
