Amazon Program Manager, Value Added Services in Tokyo, Japan

To that end, Amazon is seeking an exceptional Program Manager who will be part of a group that’s defining and building value added products and service capabilities for Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) to set them up for success and rapid growth. Value Added Services (VAS) are introduced to new partners with the objective of overcoming entry barriers to start a logistics delivery business with Amazon. We ensure that DSPs have a hassle-free and enriching operational experience by utilizing best-in-class services offered by Amazon selected vendors.

The successful candidate in this role will craft the strategy and execution plans for suite of VAS and will be responsible for ensuring that the existing services meet the demands of our customers both internal in Amazon and our DSPs on the last mile. This individual in essence will negotiate services with external vendors in Japan on behalf of our partners to make them successful by obtaining best-in class deals. This requires the placement of new services as well as an ability to challenge the status quo repeatedly.

Key job responsibilities

• Create and drive Value Added Service concepts on the basis of customer and market requirements in Japan

• Manage 3rd party companies, resolve pain points, and work with country teams to create development plans for new product or service, and execute project plans for the launch of new features.

• Work with in country teams to execute project plans for the launch of new services, incorporating merchandising and marketing strategies

• Support world-wide program teams to implement the local VAS strategy and ensure services are provided in full and in the right quality

• Manage pilot projects to test new services and roll out negotiated services across the country, continuously improve our service offering

• Act as the ‘product owner’ for assigned categories, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact the product. This includes owning forecasting, monitoring, driving changes to achieve business objectives

• Have a thorough understanding of the product category, seasonality and continually monitor customers feedback and vendor's development

• Be main Point of Contact (POC) in case of escalations and manage vendor relationships on an ongoing basis

• Coordinate consolidated order execution and administration

A day in the life

This role is based in Tokyo and allows you to connect with internal stakeholders from compliance, account management, legal, etc. You will be working closely with external vendors that offer business services to alleviate pain points of our logistics partners. You’ll look after all elements of our vendor relationships, from acquiring services, negotiating costs and creating the contracts in place to keeping track of program performance.

About the team

Amazon Logistics, or AMZL, handles ‘last mile’ delivery duties in partnership with third-party distribution businesses. We utilize creative thinking and continuous improvement initiatives to offer business services as products to our delivery service partners that are small to mid scale companies and also net new entrepreneurs. The team works in close collaboration with global stakeholders based in North America and Europe.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3+ years of program or project management experience

  • 3+ years of vendor management experience

  • 3+ years of defining and implementing process improvement initiatives using data and metrics experience

  • Business level of Japanese and English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in HR shared services, IT services, operations and/or compliance

  • Experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams

  • Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization

  • Excited about working in a diverse group and contributing to an inclusive culture
