The Director, Program Management is responsible for managing one or more highly complex and/or high-profile project and/or cross project teams.

  • Works in partnership with project leads to develop, gain approval, and execute on the project strategy andto ensure the timely achievement of deliverables by the team.

  • Co-chairs timely, efficient, and action-oriented Japan Development Team (JDT) meetings and is responsible for coordinating highly complex team operations and communications between JDTs and Global Development Teams (GDTs).

  • Participates in working groups within the Project Management department to establish best practices, resolve highly complex operational issues or improve department processes.

  • Participates in Japan Development Leadership Team (JDLT)to representGlobal Program Management.

  • Future responsibilities may include recruiting and supervising other Japan -based project managers.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

  • Directs highly complex project communications and ensures that all project team members and stakeholdersare fully informed and knowledgeable of project activities and their status.

  • Provides leadership in the integration of the Gilead Japan processes into G.Ecosystem, including the formation of JDTs, working with functional leadership and their contributions to GDTs.

  • Facilitates the design, implementation, and update of Japan Clinical Development Plans(which integrate into global CDPs) which define the scope of the Japan team’s deliverables.

  • Develops and maintains project plans inG.Plan for programs/projects within your remit.

  • Works collaboratively with GDTs and PSTs to develop program documentation for governance authorizations (Development Review Committee -DRC and Portfolio Committee – PC) as required.

  • Working with the JDL, ensures that the Japan program strategy aligns with the Global Development Team’s (GDT) clinical strategy and the Program Strategy Team’s (PST) overall program strategy

  • Ensures that CDPs integrate timings, scope and resources/budget.

  • Develops and maintains project plans in G.Plan.

  • Authors selected sections of the CDPssuch as timelines and budget.

  • Ensures project work complies with established practices, policies and processes.

  • Facilitates the review and editing of regulatory documents.

  • Provides leadership to the team to anticipate, identify and mitigate project risks which representa challenge to achieving strategic goals

  • May represent Project Management on Franchise Teams and prepare materials and attend senior management committees as requested.

  • Provides updated project documents and information for quarterly Product Update Reports, LE budget reviews, quarterly investor relations/Board updates and Portfolio Review as requested.

  • Works with the G.Plan Office to develop Japan-focusedGilead project views for Japan leadership.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Typically requires a BA or BS degree andminimum 12 years of relevant experience, which includes 10 years as a project manager and/or pharmaceutical line manager and/or pharmaceutical functional area scientist or a MS or MBA and minimal 10 years of relevant experience. A PhD in a scientific field or a PharmD, DVM or MD degree and minimum 6 years of relevant experience is desirable. Experience should include participation in cross-functional project management activities.

  • Line management supervisory experience is required.

  • Must have extensive understanding of the drug development process. Must have an extensive understanding of and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards of pharmaceutical project management.

  • Must be able to understand and communicate scientific and business elements associated with the therapeutic area(s) of assigned projects.

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a global, local and team environment.

  • Must be able to support highly complex multiple activities simultaneously.

  • Must possess advanced knowledge and skill with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel and other reporting and tracking tools.

  • Must be able to work under minimal and at times no supervision, determine personal work plan, and schedule tasks and activities.

  • Provides updated project documents and information for quarterly LE budget reviews, quarterly investor relations/Board updates and annual Portfolio Review.
