Akima Forklift Operator / Material Handler in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania

Responsibilities

  • Receives scheduled shipments, reviews documentation, and processes receipts through the Logistics Management Program (LMP).

  • Operates forklift capable of lifting 15,000 pounds as high as 168 inches to move, load, unload, transfer, transport, stack or unstack palletized goods, boxes, crates, merchandise, materials and supplies from one location to another.

  • Operates a floor controlled electric bridge crane, on the loading dock with a capacity of ten tons to unload a variety of items from vehicles.

  • Ensures proper placement and attachment of weight handling gear, such as cables, ropes and slings to lift cannon tubes, castings and other large and heavy equipment, while loading and unloading vehicles.

  • Checks ropes, cables and other equipment for excessive wear or damage and obtains replacements as appropriate.

  • Operates electric, diesel, or gasoline powered forklifts capable of lifting 10,000 pounds or more to a height of 212 inches to load, unload, stack, unstack, warehouse, and move shelters, conex, crates, boxes, packages, pallets and palletized materials or loose items.

  • Operates indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions working in outside storage areas and confined shop spaces.

  • Moves systems, shelters, system components, and generally oversized materials through narrow aisles.

  • Operates warehouse tractors with up to three dollies on a limited basis to move over sized system components, pallets, palletized materials, bar stock, and other materials requiring special handling.

  • Operates 2,000-to-6,000-pound capacity forklifts to load, unload, stack, unstack, re- warehouse, and move boxes, crates, packages, pallets, or loose items; regulates forks and truck movement, exercising care to avoid overloading or improper stacking or movement of supplies and materials; performs drivers' maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations.

  • Operates gasoline, battery, or gas-electric powered 3 or 4 wheeled tractors with up to 4 forward gears, towing loaded or unloaded dump cars, skids, or wheeled trailers.

  • Couples and uncouples tractors and trailers automatically or manually under special circumstances.

  • Exercises responsibility: for assuring security of loads, to avoid trailer overloading, and to determine safe material loading. Picks up and delivers materials and equipment according to instructions and knowledge of storage and work sites, delivery and pickup points and their locations.

  • Performs driver's maintenance, before, during, and after service on both tractors and trailers in accordance with established rules and regulations.

  • Fills out daily equipment log.

  • Stand, bend and reach while performing work inside warehouses, in bin rooms, in open storage areas, and on receiving and shipping docks and platforms in areas that may be cold, drafty, damp, or hot.

  • Possibility of injury from falling or dropping stock, of stacks toppling or loads shifting because of improper loading.

  • May be exposed to cuts, bruises, and lacerations from falling boxes, etc.

  • Verifies materials against receiving documents, noting and reporting discrepancies and obvious damages.

  • Routes materials to prescribed storage locations.

  • Stores, stacks, or palletizes materials in accordance with prescribed storage methods.

  • Rearranges and takes inventory of stored materials.

  • Examines stored materials and reporting deterioration and damage.

  • Removes material from storage and preparing it for shipment.

  • Receives, identifies, examines and determines destination acceptability of items from a variety of supply sources.

  • Uses a number of measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, gauges, scales and meters as well as conversion charts to ascertain dimensions and make necessary computations.

  • Lifts and handles heavy items when manually performing warehousing tasks may occur.

  • Requires HAZMAT training for any transporting of hazardous materials or waste.

Qualifications

  • Be a US citizen that is able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

  • Must pass a drug test prior to start.

  • May require that company vehicles are driven.

  • Proven experience with multiple types of forklifts.

  • Have a valid state DOT driver's license.

  • Be able to obtain a TYAD operating permit.

  • Be familiar with transporting HAZMAT.

  • Be able to lift and move items weighing up to 45 pounds.

  • Be able to operate hand and foot controls which start, turn, and stop forklifts and tractors, or which raise, lower, or tilt the load on the forklift.

  • Be computer literate and able to function with basic programs, research, data input, etc.

  • Have physical endurance to withstand the strain from vibration.
