WSP USA Lead Civil/Structural Engineer, Substations in Thornhill, Ontario

To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking a Lead Civil/Structural Engineer, Substations to join our National Electrical Team, located in Ontario - Thornhill, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Toronto, Kitchener or Ottawa.
This position will play a crucial role in designing and optimizing the civil and structural elements of transmission and distribution systems related to but not limited to hydroelectric facilities, high voltage transmission, substations, and distribution facilities. This role involves close collaboration with clients and stakeholders to understand their engineering needs, ensuring successful project coordination.

What you can expect to do here:
You will collaborate with technical staff to design foundation, structural, building, and civil engineering elements for low, medium, and high voltage electrical transmission and distribution substation projects;
You will prepare work plans and tenders for new projects, ensuring timely completion and budget adherence;
You will supervise and develop junior/intermediate engineers and technicians, providing guidance and mentorship;
You will participate in ongoing customer relations, inspections, and site interventions, ensuring exceptional client satisfaction;
You will design feasibility and detail engineering plans for electrical infrastructure, including substations and buildings;
You will analyze and design electrical substation buildings, considering safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal;
You will perform surface and underground work interventions, ensuring efficient project delivery;
You will follow up on the preparation of civil engineering plans and specifications originally prepared by a civil engineer;
You will design structural steel and concrete drawings according to 3D analysis and design codes in use in Canada and internationally;
You will supervise CAD technicians in the preparation of drawings, maintaining quality and accuracy;
You will supervise structural inspectors in the preparation of inspection reports and repair designs, ensuring compliance with regulations;
You will prepare specifications for buildings, foundations, and structural work, considering local building codes and standards.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related field;
Professional engineering license (P.Eng) required;
Minimum of 10+ years of civil/structural engineering experience in Transmission and Distribution projects, ideally within a consulting environment;
Experience with all voltages 735 kV and below.
Strong knowledge of structural/civil engineering requirements for electrical transmission and distribution systems, with a deep understanding of industry standards and regulations;
Familiarity with relevant safety standards, utility codes, and regulatory requirements;
Familiarity with building codes and major design codes and standards, ensuring regulatory compliance;
Proficiency with structural engineering software and computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as Revit and BIM;
Working knowledge of Revit and BIM software, enabling seamless collaboration;
Willingness to travel as needed for project assessments, meetings and on-site support;
Excellent organizational and report writing skills, producing high-quality documents;
Effective communication skills, ability to meet deadlines, and collaborate with colleagues.
