Purpose The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer role is a hybrid role that combines elements of hardware design engineering with embedded firmware development. The Sr. Embedded Systems Engineer role is responsible for providing technical project leadership, by applying their knowledge and expertise in the design, prototype, and subsequent test and qualification of new products.

The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer will utilize various Hardware Development Engineering Design Automation (EDA) tools, including, but not limited to, schematic capture, circuit simulation and analysis, CAD tools, and PLD development tools, to define and document design elements and artifacts.

The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer will utilize various Software/Firmware IDE, including but not limited to, Code Composer, NetBeans, and Lattice Diamond.

Products are typically microcontroller/PLD based instrumentation and control (IandC) of analog and digital interfaces.

Essential Functions * Provide technical leadership to a cross functional Engineering team in the design, development, prototype and test of new products that meet requirements, within constraints of allocated budget and schedule. * Generate system block diagrams, schematics, design description documentation, along with any additional Engineering design elements and artifacts required to thoroughly and adequately document the new product development. * Demonstrate design compliance by analysis using a combination of hand calculations, circuit simulation tools such as PSPICE, and PLD simulation tools. * Review Design Specifications to understand customer requirements, and support Sales in preparing proposals in response to prospective customer RFQs/RFPs. * Identify areas of opportunity and provide suggestions on how to improve the efficiency of the Engineering design processes. * Provide mentoring to less experienced designers and engineers on products, processes, and tools. * Support Production organization in resolving issues related to the manufacture of new and existing products. * Generate product Bills of Materials, execute Engineering Change Requests, and enter into the ERP system (Visual Manufacturing).

Accountability Reprts to Control Engineering Director, Ward Leonard. Ensures that all work is done in accordance with project specifications and Company Policy. Keeps Management aware of all progress and problems.

Physical Requirements Job requires sitting at a desk doing normal office work, including phone communications and using a computer. Also involves working in engineering lab environment and on factory floor to support manufacturing and manufacturing test.

Environmental / Safety / Time Allocation * Spends approximately 75% of time working at a desk in a normal office environment. * Spends about 25% of time in engineering lab environment and manufacturing floor as needed.

Training / Cross Training / Progression Trains for Principal Engineer position, or comparable position within Engineering Department. Assists in the on-boarding and training of new engineers and/or for interdepartmental cross training.
